TV was purchased new and only had a to replace the Lamp once after 2 years. I kept the original packaging and always used it to move it or store it in. This TV has always been handled with upmost care. TV was working fine before putting into storage for the past 2 years. It was originally put in an upright position, but got moved around while in storage and was left on its side for the past year. Recently it was moved from storage back to my home and when it was plugged-in the unit had no light and cycled off after a minute or so and the standby light started flashing a red code 5 times. Looked-up the code online and it said the problem was the Lamp Ballast. Don't understand how it would go bad just sitting there, but whatever. Finally got around to disassembling the TV and have the Lamp Ballast removed, but don't know how to test it to find out what's bad on it or if this is the root problem. It was pretty dirty a had to be blown-off with compressed air. I took pictures before and after cleaning. Any help troubleshooting this problem would be greatly appreciated.
You cant test them unfortunately. The only reliable way is to swap it out with a known good ballast. They can and do go bad sitting as the capacitors start to dry out from not using them. Sitting is bad for electronics. Buy a ballast from ebay(used known good) and try it. Thats your best bet honestly.

If you replace the lamp and need to reset the Lamp Timer Reset procedure is: With The Set In Standby Press Display, 5, Vol Up, Power on the remote control Press Jump 3. Or, To Display The Lamp Time Press 2 Nine Times. To Reset Press 3, Mute, Enter. One of these should work on your model. Make sure you replace the bulb first. There is a possibility that the ballast could be damaged by a defective bulb as well.

Had exact same problem with my KDF-55WF655 and put in new projection bulb assembly and no more cut out plus picture is much brighter even on standard. Next time will just by bulb and install in old assembly as it looks straight forward now that I know what assembly looks like. Got about 7200 hrs. out of OE projection lamp and almost 4 years service.

You need to open up set and clean out all fans of dust or the new bulb isnt being cooled, or the color lcd isnt being cooled shutting TV off.
