Here are all the 970 series manuals. I can't pin that exact model down. The numbering for Kenmore Oven has a period between so 970.655932, but nothing exact on that. Some 970 are built in, some are slide in and some are combination ovens with microwave capability. Check the model number for me please.
If this is the design that the oven will click to light they generally will preheat but shut down once they go to standard bake. The oven will try three times to relight but then shuts down and will not try to light again until you reset the oven. If this is the case the oven burner itself is usually the problem. the burner comes with the electrode.
I had this with my oven, it just kept getting hotter and hotter. Had to replace the whole control panel. Mine was a Kenmore but I suspect they are similar.
