Lubricate the lock by squirting some graphite into it and inserting the key and removing several times. Do not use any spray or liquid lube as they can hold dust and dirt which then gums up the keyway.
Check the key for wear if key wearing down or signs of metal fatigue possible cylinder shaving or wearing down key and or key damaged or wearing down cylinder

in that transmission shifter assembly, there should be a solenoid that is responsible for once the shifter is in park it releases the lock in the steering column. either its not hooked up or not adjusted properly.
