First thing I would do is to try a reset. Here's a YouTube video showing how to do this: Daewoo How to Reset the Ice Maker American Style Fridge Freezer

and here's a generic "how to" guide on troubleshooting and repairing most types of refrigerator ice makers.

We have the same problem with the ice cube tray. Repairman said the tray must be replaced every year as continual bending warps it out of shape. Replace every year and your problem is solved.

SOURCE: Ice Maker will not release the frozen ice cubes from tray

The icemaker use an avaporator system with an heatinc coil and a fan to release cubes.

In your case either the heating coil or the fan in the icemaker must be replaced.

parts can be purchased from partselect.com.

Hi Alice. If I was nearby I would stop by and take a look for you but since we are cyber only I will assist you and yes, you can fix this yourself!

If your ice maker has stopped producing ice completely, check these, in this order:

  • It may be turned off. Look for the wire along the right side of the ice maker that looks a bit like a coat hanger. If the wire is in the raised position, the ice maker is turned off. If so, try one of these:

    • If your ice maker has a small red plastic lever, lower it to lower the wire.

    • If there's no plastic lever, simply lower the wire.

In either case, the ice maker should begin producing ice again. Also make sure that the temperature is 8 degrees Fahrenheit or lower. If the freezer is too warm, the ice maker won't cycle properly.

  • The ice maker fill tube may be blocked with ice. If so, melt the blockage using a hair dryer-but be careful to not melt any plastic parts! Also replace the water shut-off valve or water-inlet valve, or both, if necessary.

  • The ice maker head assembly may have broken parts. Look to see if the gears are broken. Check to see if the small plastic arms that rest against the ice rake are broken. If the ice maker head assembly is modular and you've found broken parts, you can just replace it.

If your filter is over 6 months old, try replacing it first. Its time for a new filter anyway. Thats when I usually know its time for a new filter.

The first place I would check is the solenoid listed as position 33 here=> MSD2756GEW Ice Bin and Components When switched to crushed to not crushed that activates the shifting lever to create crushed. First unplug refrigerator and then unplug the coil and check resistance with an OHM meter. When energized with 120 VAC the coil should pull a strong magnetic field through the center. Give that a try first. Part is=> 61005253 SOLENOID

My ice tray moves fine and makes ice but for some reason it won't release the ice when it turns. Then the water tries to fill up over the full tray and makes a big mess. Any suggestions?

Either the icemaker support is broken, DA61-02205A or the ice tray is damaged or has lime buildup. The ice tray is supposed to twist when it flips: an off-center stud on the tray catches the support, while the tray is still turning. If it does twist but does not release ice - replace or clean the ice tray, DA63-01453B

Good luck,

The ice maker in my samsung fridge is putting too much water into the ice tray thus dripping water into the ice compartment and freezing all the ice cubes together and dripping through the outlet

Spray your ice maker tray with pam. Ice maker trays build ups from water so occasionally spray them with pam and they will dump okay.
