Check the region you are using in your search. If the addresses are outside the region selected, the GPS won't find them.

SOURCE: mapsource update CD

Hi check out this wed site, it will help. HT maps for the Nuvi are NOT for PC use. The map load onto the GPS as you install Mapsouce. Reinstall Mapsouce and take option 3 on the startup page of the program.

Good luck

SOURCE: garmin nuvi 660 forget my pin

The only options you have when it comes to a locked unit is to enter the correct PIN, go to the location where the PIN was set, or send the unit back to Garmin. There is no way to unlock a PIN locked unit without the correct PIN or location.

SOURCE: Is there any free map updates for the garmin nuvi?

Asmany as there are FREE dinners Updates are not free, unless you paid full price for it when you bought it. Free upgrades are a deceptive myth. If you get a free uograde its usually minor and was included in the price of the pack.

Install maps from CD after maintenance mode on Nuvi 660

Hi if it is saying problem with removalbe drive G this will mean their is either problem with the lead.
If this is not the case then it is either your usb port or the unit itself you might find that the prot works fine but the computer is not recognising the sat nav.
have you installed this disk that came with the satnav on your comp this might be the problem try opening this programme before you plug satnav in.
The only other thing you could try is plugging it back in do you leave the satnav off whilst it is plugged into your comp.
When it is plugged in try using the tool search for new hardware run this file when it has finished look on the list and the satnav should be in this list.
If it is then you will need the disk that cam with the satnav select satnav from the list then select have disk put the disk in and try reinstalling the software that came with the satnav.
Are you sure that the port is working properly that you are trying to use.
Let me know how you get on ok

How often should you update or is it more practicle to just purchase a new garmin every couple years?

If you're happy with the satnav you have it's cheaper to update. You have the option of buying a once off map update or a lifetime update. That is for the lifetime of the satnav not your life. With a lifetime update, which costs around 120 euros, you get 4 updates each year. This is the cheapest option. However the only problem with this method is that the maps get bigger each time you update and the space on your satnav stays the same. I started off with a full map of Europe and now I'm only able to store Western Europe on my garmin nuvi 760. You can use memory cards to hold some of the map but older garmin satnavs have a problem recognising the maps on memory cards. If you need the full map you might be better buying a new satnav every few years. If you only use part of the map a lifetime update might be the best option.

If you decide to go for a new satnav I would suggest that you go for one with the biggest storage space possible and then get a lifetime update or get a model that comes with lifetime updates like the 3790LMT. You can judge the storage size by the amount of maps it comes with. The 3790 model has the complete USA + Canada and Mexico or the 2370LT comes with maps of Europe and USA, lifetime traffic updates but not lifetime maps.

What is the best and cheapest way ot update are garmin. or is it better to get a new one

There's only one way to update a garmin satnav without risking destroying it. You can find details of how to do so at http://www.fixya.com/support/r5628920-update_garmin_satnav_maps. To do a once off update will cost in the region of 80 euros. To get a lifetime update will cost around 140 euros. The price varies depending on the map you want to download. This is for the lifetime of the satnav rather than your lifetime.

The nuvi 200 is a discontinued satnav, even though it may only be a few years old, and the problem with it is that it probably won't be able to hold the complete updated map. This means that you'll have to download only part of the map e.g. if you have a map of Europe you may have to settle for Western Europe or Central Europe etc. You can download the whole map to your computer and install the remainder to an SD card. However maps on an SD card rarely work with the nuvi 200.

So it depends on what you want. If you want the complete map it may be better to go for a new satnav and try to sell your old one to cover part of the cost. If you only use the satnav in your own country or state you might be happier to just update and settle for part of the map. Some new garmin satnavs come with free lifetime map updates. They can be identified by the letters LMT at the end of the model name. Of course you're paying for them in the price of the satnav. The problem with the new satnavs is that in 3 years time or so they will also be discontinued and outdated and the full maps will probably not fit on them either.

Hello how can I update my Carmin nuvi 660 and download the map of new zealand ? thank you

Details of how to update your garmin satnav are at http://www.fixya.com/support/r5628920-update_garmin_satnav_maps

To get a new map of NZ you need to have your satnav registered. Details of how to do so are at the above link also. When you're registered go to www.garmin.com
  • Click on the myGarmin tab
  • Log in using your username and password
  • Click on the myMaps tab
There you'll see the map installed on your satnav. On the left hand side of the screen you'll see in blue writing a link saying "Shop for new maps" and then on "View additional maps for this product"

Scroll down as far as the map of NZ and select it. Follow the prompts.
If the map you already have on your satnav is not NZ and you want to save that too it's unlikely that both will fit on your satnav. If this is the case follow the instructions, at the above link, under the heading If the map is too large to install on your satnav for downloading to your computer and installing from your computer to your memory card rather than the satnav. Be advised maps installed on memory cards will not always work on garmin nuvi satnavs particularly if the memory card is larger than 2 Gb. Please read the article at the link above before buying.

Bought life time map update for my nuvi 200W. download tells me I'm lacking 459MB. I took every thing off that I can think of and cleared my personal settings. still lacking 459MB. bought 8 GB sdnc...

The reason that the download is telling you that you're short of space when you have the memory card in is that it's trying to download to the satnav rather than the memory card. The solution to this problem is at http://www.fixya.com/support/r5628920-update_garmin_satnav_maps There may be more information there than you need but everything you could need to ask about updating maps is there including how to get the map onto your memory card.
You will probably have problems getting the satnav to recognise the 8 Gb memory card. The smaller and slower the card is the better chance you have but unfortunately older satnavs like the 200w is hit and miss. I have got some of them to work with SD cards while others just will not.

HI, I have a Garmin Nuvi 200W. Do you get frre map upgrades? Where do I go and how do I go about to update the maps? It has never been updated in about 4 years.

The only time Garmin give free maps is if a new map comes out within 60 days of you first connecting to satellites with your satnav. If you have it for four years I'm afraid you'll have to pay for the upgrade. Details of how to update your garmin nuvi satnav are at http://www.fixya.com/support/r5628920-update_garmin_satnav_maps

I purchase the lifetime updates for my Nuvi 200W GPS and now it will not allow me to download any updates on to it due to not enough memory. What can I do. I am pretty upset because I spent the money for...

Unfortunately the garmin 200W, like most of the garmin satnavs, doesn't have much storage space so you should be given the option to download part of the map only to your satnav. To get the full map the only option is to download the map to your computer. When you go to download the map from the garmin website select OPTIONS. In the options menu select download to computer. This installs a program called Mapinstall on your computer which contains the map. If you need to use more of the map you can then either replace the part installed on your satnav by running the mapinstall program from your computer or install it to an SD card. Note however that while garmin say that nuvi satnavs support SD cards up to 16 Gb some cards don't seem to work in them. Before spending all the time it takes to put your map on the card test it in your satnav first by putting music or pictures on it to see if it works

I am trying to update my garmin 255w and not getting anywhere. I have no idea what I am doing wrong. Help

To update the maps you connect the satnav to your computer. If you haven't registered your satnav already you need to do so first. Go to www.garmin.com. Select your country and then click on myGarmin. If your satnav is already registered skip to the next paragraph. If it's not registered click on Register Your Garmin Product. When registering you'll be asked to create a username and password. Write them down and keep them safe as you'll need them anytime you update your maps.

When you have registered your satnav, or if it's already registered, Click on myGarmin, enter your username and password and log in. Click on myMaps. If there's a map update available it will say so beside the map name. Click on Get Update and follow the prompts.

To update the software, connect your satnav to your computer, download and install webupdater from http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27 if you haven't already done so. When it's installed it will search for updates. Follow the prompts.
