There is a bulb behind the display it is for backlighting the lcd, likely it is burnt out or bad connection from the board

From Uniden:

If there is an error code with an E followed by a number or "88" displays/flashes it would be an internal issue in the base unit. The unit would need repair.

Uniden does offer a limited 1 year warranty off the proof of purchase. The proof of purchase is required for warranty service. Uniden phones that are purchased in the US or Canada are only made for use in the US or Canada. Using this phone in other countries will void the warranty and also may damage the unit due to the differences in electrical standards. Also the unit may not work as specified.

I have bought a GE cordless phone model 29670, base unit working fine but cordless unit no sound or display even though battery charged more than 10hrs before first use.

I took the phone to the shop where I purchased, they replaced the battery cordless unit with a new one, now it is OK. All displays are perfect.
