Hi Stacy:
I'd be suspicious that it's not getting fuel, but considering the age of the machine............ probably time for a methodical maintenance check.
Spark plugs (if gas). condition and check for spark.
Did this only happen once, or if you leave it for a while, will it start again and then die?
You may be able to find a forum of owners of these machines.
Here's a link that may assist.

Hi Stacey:
I'd try checking the spark. Should be HOT and blue. Yellow not good. These older machines had points, coil, and condenser, or magneto. Points erode, condenser gets tired, Time for a tune up.
Thank u Ted! It did just have a complete tune-up in the spring so I am thinking it could be fuel-related since it sits outside and we have had a lot of rain. It would start and run for a while just fine but then kinda choked up and died. I would let it sit for a while and it would start again but then die. Now it cranks like it's trying to start but wont even turn over
Hi Stacy:
I'd go back to basics.
1) Pull some plugs and look for:
- WET - means it's probably not firing. Check for spark at plug.
- DRY - Probably not getting gas. Confirm spark at plug, then work on fuel delivery, Drain and flush carb. Clean or replace fuel filter. Drain and fill fuel tank with fresh gas.
Give it a try.

Yes, if I left it for a while it would start. Tried to start it last night and it won't even fire, starter just turns it over but no start.
