Sony KDL 46HX820 turns on, then off and red light blinks four times.

Re: Bravia KDL46EX720. Red LED blinks 4 times and TV wont turn on. What is the problem?

Do a Power Reset.

1. Turn off the TV.
2. Unplug the power cord of the TV from the electrical outlet.
3. Let the TV remain without power for 60 seconds.
4. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet. (If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.)
5. Turn on the TV.

If the issue still persists after performing power reset, that may be an indication that the TV needs service. You may refer to this link to locate the nearest Sony authorized service center in your area.

Wont turn on but tries too come on,power light blinkink

Internal power supply failure. Was there a lightning storm in your area recently or utility work being done recently? This two things usually kill TV's and other electronics with surges when power is restored. If the set is under warranty call the manufacture, if not, call you homeowners insurance agent to see if the damage is covered w/or w.o. deductible. At least you can get something toward repair/replacement costs. Future fix, purchase and install a surge arrestor in your main AC panel for the whole house or buy a power strip with a built in surge filter/protector for your expensive equipment.

We had bad weather lights went out ..had tv plugged into a power surge plug ...now that i have power back tv wont come on

Some will say a surge protector will save electronics. I can tell you they may not help at all. A power surge is extremely fast and can over ride the surge protector. If you think you can repair this TV, I would certainly remove the back cover and inspect. Occasionally the only problem for repair is to replace the main fuse. Remember, this happens rarely. Most cases after a surge the TV will need to be inspected by a TV tech. Almost anything, in a power surge will damage the TV. There is no certain area that will not be damaged, expect it any where. Thanks for asking and show all hands of support!

Recently there was a storm in my area. Satellite quit working then TV went out. TV is on a surge protector and nothing else quit working but tv. The power light blinks and nothing can be done to make TV...

Usually the blinking indicates a power section problem. That could have been from a power surge. Thats a shop job to fix. Since its out of warrenty you need to get an estimate first. Repair costs can be more than a new tv. Last one I saw was $450ish. If you have any local tv repair shops talk to them , then talk to sharp and get contact info for the repair depot and talk to them. Get estimates from all, then compare that to a new tv cost and you will know which way is best for you to go.

Unless you spent almost as much on the surge supressor as the tv they are only actually meant to protect the wiring in the house. The do not react fast enough to actually stop a power surge. They just cut off a short circuit problem so the house wiring doesn't overheat and burn the house down.

All of a sudden none of the buttons work, we can't change any channels and it will only turn on. The TV is less than a year old, is plugged into a power strip (so there won't be a power surge), and was...

Not all power strips prevent power surge, only those that specify on their packaging or imprinted on them, that they are "surge protectors". Also, even these will have lost their surge protection once they have been hit either by lightning or a strong power surge. You would have to check with the manufacturer on how much of a hit they can withstand. Was there a thunderstorm in your area recently? Are you using a remote to try to change the channels? If so, try the buttons on the tv itself. Also try unplugging, waiting 15 or more seconds, plug it back in, directly to the wall socket. See if that resets it. If you still can't get it to change channels call the manufacturer of the tv, it may be a known problem and they may be able to help.

No power on Samsung TV after storm

Hello Zkarim,

I'm very sorry to hear about your unfortunate new's. I had the same problem in my own home maybe a week ago.

Basically if your power flickered on and off at anytime during this storm then there was a power surge that probably fried your TV.
* First check the power where the tv was plugged in. Is it a power strip or a surge protector ? Surge protectors typically have an on/off switch and a separate reset push button.

If it is a power strip then the tv fried because there was nothing to stop it from happening (not even the fuse). If it was plugged into a surge protector then it could be quiet a few years old and not as reliable or the surge was to powerful for the limit on the surge protector.

The only thing you can do personally is send it in for repair if it's under warranty, if it is not then you can have it looked at by an authorized repair technician in your area. Troubleshooting should be fairly low, and you will at least be able to find out your options once they find the defected part.

Thank you for choosing Fixya!

Tv will not power up when turned on after a power surge occurred.

Prayfully the fuse inside the tv took a little shock and broke ...if not that would leave the transformer or the board took a surge also but this would also depend on a little more details...

was the power surge damaged?
was tv plug damaged?
does the power surge still work (if it wasn't damage)
and not all power surges are power surges unless it specified of purchase most are like power surges but are only close to and a extended extention cord updated..

if the power surge is damaged or even still works then go have the fuse check and any further damage will also show up on the board it will have a burned part...

Humming

Hi,

If you live in an high altitude area it can cause a plasma to hum.
Another thing you can try if you don't live in an area like that is using a surge protector. The thing is your power outlet could be sending what's called "Dirty Electricity" to your tv that could be causing it to hum. I would recommend something that does "power filtering" like a Panamax surge or a Monster surge.
So that you get clean power to the tv

Hope my info is useful....
Thanx for using fixya......
