Hi have you tried using a dvd lense cleaner these are cheap to buy and will clean the laser lense this usually solves the problem but if not then the chances are your going to need to get the laser replaced.

SOURCE: HELP
jennyd8,
I'm not sure exactly what you are asking me to explain. If you are asking why it has to be locked or "frozen" in the DVD mode it is because that is the easiest way to effect the fix, ie, by wiring the new connection to the cable that comes from the DVD player into the motherboard. If your set is already "frozen" in the DVD mode then you are ready to start the fix. If you need to get it in the DVD mode just stick a DVD in the player and the set will go into the DVD mode. If this is not what you wanted clarification on then please be more specific as to what you are puzzled by.

SOURCE: dvd player won't work, says no disk
Greetings,
I do not have good news for either of you. These are notorious for having cheap lasers in them and their original purchase price usually makes a repair cost prohibitive. If you are having an intermittent problem where the disc will freeze - then play - then freeze - then play this is often the first indicator that the laser is failing. One easy way to confirm this is to play a compact disc in the player. CDs are easier for the player to read than DVDs are. If it plays CD and you continue to experience problems with DVDs this usually indicates a laser failing. Remember, when buying a consumer electronic product, the price of a thing usually reflects the quality of that thing.
As for cleaning discs; if a laser has enough residue built up on it to prevent the error correction system from overcoming it, then the microfine brushes on a cleaning disc will probably be ineffective at removing that build up. Cleaning discs are akin to the old VCR cleaning tapes, usually ineffective.
Sorry for the bad news,
Rob

SOURCE: My remote control has broken.
I would check out the Harmony 510 remote control. It may be a little pricey but it is the best universal remote on the market for the money. It also allows you to control your DVD unit as well as your TV without the requirement of selecting which one. Harmony remotes are activity based in the you pick what you want to do such as “Watch TV”, “Watch DVD” , “Watch VCR” etc.. Then It turns the appropriate units on and then sets them to the correct input. Makes it real easy once set up. Another advantage is the IR codes are stored on line and constantly updated so new products and codes can be added.
