I got this washer from my mom and it did not smell when i got it a couple of months ago. i have tried affresh and it only lasted a short time and now it smells really sour again. i tried leaving the lid open between washes and it doesn't make any difference

I had this same problem as everyone (especially with a front load washer) has. After research... I have found a product that I now tell everyone about. I found it on the web called 'smellywasher.com'. A nontoxic product by Laundry Specialist sounded good. I was willing to do anything to cleanup the smell and mildew from my machine. So I gave this a try and it REALLY WORKS!. Just as they claimed, my washer now smells clean and with no real effort from me. Now I just do a periodic cleaning and I will never have to worry about this again. (and bleach will harm the gaskets). I also use vinegar in the fabric softner dispenser instead... this insures my clothes are rinsed well and works to soften my laundry. Hope this helps and pass the info on..... THIS REALLY WORKS....which you cannot always say about products.

Do you always leave the washer open? We've never had this problem but they told us to always leave the door open slightly whenever it's not running.
SOURCE: towels smell oily and moldy--really stink
Don't use fabric softener. I had the same problem and read somewhere to stop using the fabric softeners. I don't know why but after about two cycles (they smelled really bad) it worked! I always used fabric softeners with out a problem but one day I just started getting REALLY smelly towels. I always take my wet wash out as soon as the cycle ends and dry it completely so I was surprised when they smalled so bad. Give it a try.

the smell comes from the fabric softener people use,put the machine through a hot water cycle and use CLR in the detergent dish, and after your done the wash always leave your door open on your front load so it can get air

you can open the filter drainage under near the drain hose. there may be something that comes into the washer drum and died leaving a smell. how to open the filter is rotated and pulled out only. then you try to drain the washing machine how to turn it. will allow water or sewage, which is in the drum filter out of the hole. and do not forget to clean the exhaust filter the water, there will be a lot of dirt.
