My polaroid camera won't eject the film. Are the cameras broken or is the battery dead?

I have a Polaroid Impulse and a Polaroid 600 Round. The film was brand new in the box, but expired in 2003. I inserted the new film into my impulse and the black slide came out. When I took a picture nothing came out. I tried taking another picture in complete darkness to test if it would come out, nothing. It made the correct sounds both times. I took the film out of the impulse and put it into the 600 round. When I put it in the 600 it made the sound of ejecting but nothing again. I tried taking a picture of darkness, but nothing came out.

Uprating the film means exposing it at a higher ISO rating, but I suspect this is not an option with your camera. It is possible, but unlikely, that the outdated film may have caused damage to your camera - the film packs are sealed to prevent this happening.
Packs of film may be available via Ebay, or through any major photographic retailer in the country in which you live. As I am in the UK, any advice I might give on this point would not be pertinent to your situation, I'm afraid. Good luck. Tony.

When you take a picture of darkness, are you using flash or uprating the film ?
More seriously, as the film is thirteen years out of date, I seriously doubt if it is still viable. The chemicals within the film pack will have deteriorated over time, and it is my guess that they may well have leaked into the film pack's internal mechanism, thus preventing the photos being ejected. Try again with fresh film.

Testimonial: "When I took the pictures in darkness I just covered the lenses and was in a completely dark room, but I didn't "turn off" the flash. I'm sorry but what does uprating the film mean? Do you think that the film will have ruined my cameras? Also, do you know a good place to buy film? Thank you for your help."

I have an old Polaroid Impulse camera I want give to my grandson. I just want the flash to work. Where do I put the batteries? He's only 2, he doesn't need film! Debbie

The batteries for Polaroid 600 series cameras are located inside the film pack. Polaroid discontinued manufacture of their film in 2006, a company called The Impossible Project has began limited production of some of this type of film but it's selling for about $20/10 photos.

I have a Polaroid OneStep and am not sure if my film battery is dead or my camera is broken. I haven't used the camera in about 6 months, and at that time it was mostly working fine. Sometimes nothing...

Polaroid has not manufactured film for 600 cameras in about 5 years now. The only current source is The Impossible Project, which gives 8 shots per pack, black and white images only, and they tend to fade rather quickly. You can find and order online by searching the name. The Polaroid versions available are no longer really usable because the batteries are drained, film has expired and chempaks have oxidized.

The battery packs in these are integrated into the film pack and not replaceable separately.

Which film is best for the Polaroid One Step 600 Film Camera

Again, the only CURRENT, in-date, usable film for Polaroid 600 is made by TIP, available thru their website. There are some scumbags out there online selling old Polaroid film they've re-dated and selling it as current and fresh film - it is not. The newest Polaroid brand film expired in 2009. Buyer beware.

My daughter bought a Polaroid One Step camera at a yard sale, but the battery is dead. Is there a way to change the battery?

Polaroid OneStep cameras have the battery built-in to the film back. If you are using Polaroid 600 film, simply change the film cartridge.

POLAROID SOS

The battery in the film pack may be dead, or the camera is broken. Take the film pack out and replace it. If the camera does not reset then the camera is gone.

Sx-70 is Not Ejecting FIlm When Taking Picture

Possible you got a bad film cassette. In the original Polaroid camera packs they had batteries which actually powered the whole camera. The batteries may be dead or not have much charge in them. They are good for a couple years and as you indicate the expiration is up in another month... Good luck

Shooting out film

Unfortunately you have a broken camera and it's not really fixable. There are plenty of free/cheap examples on FreeCycle and in thrift/charity shops but as you've discovered to your cost there's only one rather expensive way to find out whether they work...

I've just bought a Polaroid 600 camera off ebay and used the intructions on the Polaroid site to load the film. It said that once loaded and after the film door has been shut it would eject the film cover...

If the camera is showing no signs of life at all then you probably have an old stock photo pack loaded into it. These have the camera battery built in to them and like all batteries have a finite shelf life.

If you have a voltmeter then remove the photo pack and measure the voltage on the electrical contact points on the underside, if it's below a steady 6v then the battery is dead. If not the camera is dead and you can pick replacements up for less than the cost of a photo pack from thrift/charity shops and there's plenty of free ones available on Yahoo FreeCycle

Where is the battery for 600 camera located?

On a Polaroid 600 you won't find one: the 6v battery is built into the photo pack, so every time you load a photo pack you get a new battery.

Beware of old stock photo packs though unless they're *very* cheap; there's a significant risk that they won't be usable due to a dead battery.

Polaroid one step 600

The battery is included in the film pack. If you open the film door you will see the battery contacts in the lower side of the compartment. These line up with the battery holes (looks like foil in the holes) in the film pack. If you have an old film pack and no power the battery in the old pack may be dead.
