Laser mechanism is fubar. Repair not cost effective. U can just get an external player and plug it into the receiver.

Unplug DAV-C990 from AC outlet for couple of minutes, replug back in and power it up. If problem still exist then home theater has got problem in amplifier output section. Let me know the results to help you more.

A lot of "aged" problems relate to the power supply with this type of unit. If you are a handy chap and know what capacitors are you will find that finding and replacing the "dry" caps in the power supply will fix most problems including streaky pix and crackly audio.
SOURCE: Can not load or Eject DVD
Be sure NOT to load any CD+ -R,CD+-RW or DVD+-R,DVD+-RW to this unit.
Try to load up a standard CD see if there is audio first. If so,try a good(not scratches) dvd movie.If you have tried both and still not working.You need this unit to be repair or buy a new one!
