You might have a leaky pump. Open the washer case and check the pump

The capacity of your washer is 3.2 cu ft and the dryer is 6.0 cu ft. This is pretty much a standard for newer top load washers and dryers. You can get bigger but it is not that much bigger.

I have the same problem, and i think it is a problem with the agitator i pulled mine off, (remove softener insert below that is a seal easily removed and then a 7/16'' bolt) seems a 'clutch' mechanism between base and upper agitators is shot.

This is a common problem with Whirlpool washer.
Examine the transmission spline for wear.
When stripped, this prevents the agitator from properly gripping the
transmission shaft. The spline or the agitator itself may need to be
replaced.
In other words, the Spline or agitator of the top half of your washer is the cause of the problem. These two parts may need to be replaced.
