Need hep programming a new uniden bcd396xt scanner

Unfortunately, you didn't specify if you needed assistance with programming digital or conventional radio systems.. but here is the info for conventional systems. Since a conventional system is really a collection of frequencies, the first thing you need to know is the frequency for each channel you want to program.

  1. Go to the Program System menu and choose New System .
  2. The scanner will prompt you for the System Type. Select Conventional .
  3. When the scanner prompts you confirm, tap YES .
  4. The scanner creates the system with a default name. Select Edit Name if you want to change it.
  5. If you need to change any of the system properties, you can do that now. Unless a property is Required , you can operate the system without changing the default settings.

Create at least 1 channel group Each conventional system can contain up to 20 channel groups, and all systems must contain at least 1 channel group.

  1. On the Program System menu, select the system you just created.
  2. Go to the Edit Group menu and select New Group .
  3. If you need to change any of the channel group properties, you can do that now. Unless a property is Required , you can operate the system without changing the default settings.

Create at least 1 channel in each group Each conventional system can contain up to 1000 channels in each group, and all groups must contain at least 1 channel.

  1. On the Edit Group menu, select the channel group you just created.
  2. Go to the Edit Channel menu and select New Channel .
  3. Input the frequency for this channel in MHz.
  4. If you need to change any of the channel properties, you can do that now. Unless a property is Required , you can operate the system without changing the default settings.

I HAVE A UNIDEN BC80XL HAED HELD SCANER RADIO. MAYBE IM STIPID BUT I CANT GET IT PROGRAMED FOR ANY FREQ. i NEED SOME REALL HELP THANKS

Your first step is to compile a list of active frequencies in your area. You can find a very good database at:
www.RadioReference.com

Next, mark or highlight the frequencies that you want to program, making sure that they will work with your scanner. See your scanner manual for a list of covered frequency ranges. The BC80XLT will hold 50 frequencies.

Once you have the desired frequencies, you're ready to begin:

- Power the scanner ON.
- Press the MANUAL key.
- Enter the channel number that you want to program (01 - 50). If you're going to program the entire scanner for the first time, start with channel 01.
- Press the MANUAL key.
- Use the keypad to enter the desired frequency, including the decimal point (e.g., 146.075). Zeros at the end of the listed frequency need not be entered (e.g., 805.25000 should be entered as 805.25).
- Press the E key to save your program information.
- Press MANUAL to advance to the next channel, then start by entering the frequency.

More detailed instructions are in the factory manual. If you don't have a copy you can download and print it, at no cost, here:

How do I program my bearcat 144xl scanner?

The BC144XL is one of the few scanners that I haven't been able to locate a manual for, but programming it is fairly straight forward. Here's some guidance from Uniden:

Here are basic instructions for programming nearly all of the older scanners that Uniden produced. When the scanner is turned on press the MANUAL key, then press the channel number that you want to program first, then the MANUAL key again. This will stop the scanner from scanning and hold it on the channel that you want to program.
Then you enter the frequency (be sure to use the decimal point in the right area when entering in the frequency) and then press the E or ENTER button to save the frequency on the channel. You are now finished programming the channel. To advance to the next channel simply press the MANUAL key and enter your next frequency the same way that you entered it on the previous channel (as described at the beginning of this paragraph).

I hope this helps.

How to enter talk group id,s

OK first off here is an excellent reference for the system information. http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=3627

One problem you may have is that you programmed the system as a Mot P25 System. I have done this same mistake. The system is actually a Motorola Type 2 Trunked system, The digital part is P25 audio.

In order to change this, you have to make a new system. You cannot go back and change the system type in the scanner once it is selected. I believe doing it through the computer you may be able to change it depending on the program you are using.

So in order to program this system is to set it up as a "new system"; select - MOT; then select - 800 Mhz. Standard.

Then in the system settings input the control channels for the towers around you out of the list. (Control Channels are the ones in red.)

Next input your talk groups you like, the victoria RMCP is correct that you have.

Then set the P25 Level to auto and Control Channels setting to control channels only.

Doing this should get you the system clearly. It appears to be a well developed system.

I hope this helps,

They all program different ways... What model # and brand? Usually you have to find a memory location, then press a key, the frequency and enter. This again depends on the model/brand.
