Dazzle DVD recorder convert also yields a black screen

Dell dimension 300 computer, windows xp pro version 3, 512 megs of ram.
Camera is a sharp vL-e^30 8 that has a VCR output mode. I plug the
camera into the DAzzle DVD recorder via a USB port (There are two
USB ports that both can see a memory stick, but maybe not the camera?). The Dazzle sofwtare lets me record for a full 30 minutes
but no sound and black video are all I get. The window hardware
wizard says the dazzle 100 audio and video are properly connected
but "My Computer" does not show anything. Any idea?? A big
THANKS in advance for any suggestions. I'm trying to help a
friend out. cheers, ProfessorO

SOURCE: Pinnale Dazzle DVD recorder doesn't recognize VCR

On the start up of the instant DVD recorder program, you can either use the "let the wizard guide you" or "advance mode"

1. Select source:
you should select the options:

Video standard NTSC (Because this is the default in our region)
Video composite - if you are using RCA (red, yellow and white cables)
S-video - if you are using the cable with several pins in it.

2. Select Burner
You should select the options:
Hard disc folder - if you will be saving the content in your hard drive, the format of this files are DVD such as VOB and IFO etc.
TSST - _ _ _ _ - if you will selecting your DVD drive.

(If you have selected your DVD Burner and you cannot click "next" to proceed to the Third option,
this means that your DVD drive is not able to burn a DVD)

3. Select menus
It must be NO

4. Recording
select total recording time (make sure that dazzle is selected in the "select source" to set the total recording time)

http://pinnacle.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/pinnacle.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=9814&p_created=1082135512

Try to update the driver of your video card since the major concern is display.

Please try to connect the dazzle at the back USB ports of the computer.

Try to disable your internet connections, antivirus and firewall connection to isolate the case.

My pinnacle instant dvd recorder freezes. it says burning error when i try to record, then my computer goes to the blue screen and restarts. i use vista. what is going on? why won't it work? the dazzle dvd...

The blue screen is referred to in the industry as BSOD( blue screen of death ) this is a stop screen that is built into Windows to halt on errors whether its a hardware malfunction or incompatibility or software conflicts. Your Dazzle could be faulty or the software is causing the halt screen. This is a major problem with Vista. I have changed most of my computers from Vista back to XP because my Dazzle and new video cam won't run on Vista but runs excellent on the same machine once switched over to XP. Good luck and fell free to Google BSOD for more info.

I currently have just 256mps of memory ram on my dell dimension 2400. i want to upgrade. my manual says the maxium is 1024 mbs. can i install 1gb of ram or should i get 512 mbs? i have windows xp os. thank...

1024 is 1 gig of ram. Some older motherboards require you to put in ram in pairs but I don't think your system is one of those but if you have manual or can download manual you should check to be sure. If you don't need a pair then yes you can remove the 256 meg stick and add a 1 gig stick or you can put in 2 512 meg sticks. Should run a lot better as windows recommends at least 512 megs of ram.

Dazzle will only rcord 103 minutes and movies are 120

Are you on Windows? What version (XP, 98, Vista, etc?)
What file system are you using (right click on the drive in My Computer and select Properties)

If you are using FAT32, there is a built in limit to 2GB files. If you are finding that your capture is hitting 2GB (=103min?) and then crashing, this may be your problem. Also, consult the capture settings in the Dazzle software and ensure no file size or running time limitation is selected there.
