I bought a Vizio 42" tv and I want to connect my laptop to it so I can have a larger monitor. I connected my tv with a 15 pin monitor cable and set my tv input to RGB PC and the tv has a blue screen that says no signal, and shuts off in a few seconds. What can I do?

Before any setup to an external, you should default you laptop to the plain old lowest VGA setting.

Most newer laptop can operate in two mode.

1)turn off LCD and display to EXTERNAL

2)use LCD as monitor 1 and EXTERNAL as 2nd monitor.

Your have to figure out which mode that's best fit for you.

Windows sitting display has a lot to offer but it's confusing.

I will should SAVE the profile as default before I move onto attaching to 2nd display.

Shutdown the laptop and bring it backup.

See is video setting able to find a 2nd monitor.

If my then try the FUNCTION KEY on the laptop to activate the 15 pins connector.

What is needed to connect a laptop to my Vizio 42" LCD TV

What type of laptop (make/model) do you have? What video outputs are on the unit.

For most laptops, you need a VGA cable (assuming your laptop has a VGA port); the cable is sometimes labeled as a 15 pin D-Sub cable. If you want to use the TV speakers, you will also need a stereo 3.5 mm audio patch cable (male/male) . With both the TV and the laptop off, connect the VGA cable between the computer and the TV and put the patch cable from the audio out of the computer (speaker or headphone jack) to the VGA audio in on the TV. (The label is RGB PC for both jacks.) Then turn on the TV and then the laptop. (With some laptops, you may need to access the BIOS and enable the external video port. This is done by pressing the appropriate key repeatedly as soon as you start the computer. The key is Esc, F1, F2 or F10 depending on the brand of laptop.) Some laptops will automatically send the signal to an external monitor when it is present. On most though, you will need to set the display to the external monitor. This depends on the OS. Some laptops have a function key that does this. In Windows 7, you can do this by right clicking on the desktop (a spot with no icons or running programs) and choosing Graphics Properties. Then set how you want the display to run (external only, both screens or the laptop screen only). Please note that you may need to adjust the resolution for your graphics system. The best choices are 1920 x 1080 or 1360 x 768 at 60 Hz, depending on the laptop.

The GV42L does not correctly interpret an HDMI signal from a computer so do not use the HDMI port if your laptop has one. Also do not use a VGA to component video cable. If you have a laptop without a VGA port, you will need the correct adapter (DVI to VGA, for example).

I hope this helps.

Ilo 42'' says no signal on VGA when connected to a computer

Snap off/fully remove pins 11, 12, and 15 from a spare VGA cable and use this to connect the ILO tv. These pins are used for identification of the monitor by the PC. The video signal is now displayed perfectly on my ILO tv, in all supported resolutions.

How do I connect my Laptop computer to my LCD TV?

Every laptop has at least a VGA (computer video connection) and s-video cable port. A VGA cable is preferred if you want to be able to read text on your LCD TV. Check to make sure that your LCD TV has a VGA connector. It's a port that accepts a 15-pin connection so it's pretty easy to spot if it's there. It's just like a computer monitor cable if that helps. Should be able to find it at any local retail store that carries computers. VGA or RGB cable.

How to connect my Sharp LC-26DA5U to my computer as a monitor

There are two possible problems: 1. You are connecting a 15-pin (on the laptop) to the 9-pin (on the TV) connection. This isn't the video-in connection for the TV. The TV has a DB-15 connection near its DVI input connector. You should be using a 15-pin to 15-pin cable. The DB-9 connector on the TV is a serial port for servicing the TV. 2. You aren't enabling the external video port for the laptop. Try hitting Fn+F5 on the laptop to cycle between the three display modes: laptop only, laptop + TV, TV only. Make sure to wait a few seconds after hitting Fn+F5 to let the displays sync up.
