Samsung tv cycles on and off. Replaced the Y main or Y sustain and it didnt solve the problem.

I already replaced the y main board. Just wondering what other board failure may be causing this issue.

Fault at its main digital board. Short circuited component/s at it. Contact any service technician; or the authorized service center. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts.

In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary.
Before going further; try a hard reset first. If it does not help you, replace the main digital board. There are two methods to reset TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset. The other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you do this by overnight is better. This procedure will make it a hard reset. If you want to make it a system reset [Factory Reset]; you have to enter its service mode option, and select the factory reset option. If you wish to get some details; visit the site linked here.

Did it work with the Y-sustain board replaced? Likely if it did not work then there is an issue with the capacitors on the Y-sustain board and the power board. Check these caps for failure and replace them with the exact type. Likely the caps are blown and cause voltage loss in one or both boards.

At first review of your problem the first thought occurred to me is that it may be a bad main/power supply...not familiar with new tv's but wondered if it was a simple as replacing a wire or something. You have said you replaced the main board. At first I didn't think that was necessary but apparently it's a fairly common course of action. That seems like a lot for a faulty power switch...but there's more to it than I realized. I found this excellent youtube video with some expert instructions on how to resolve, hosted by shopjimmy.com; you have referred to this source & I'd suggest it's about the best that's out there to find solution to your situation...seems something isn't switching over right & the tv clicks several times then goes into standby...thereby have to replace the faulty ??? I'd say capacitor but now adays the composite of the boards are alot different. This video link is the best solution. I hope it helps https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n54IurMvr6o

Hi! Thank you for your help. I have a Samsung TV

Hi Doug Rudnik,

First of all thank you for contacting Fixya.com regarding on your TV problem.

You've mentioned that you can hear a sound for 1 sec and then the unit immediately turned off and there's a constant red LED lit. The symptoms you've described indicates that the main board of your unit is working fine and it automatically shuts off because it sensed malfunction on image boards. The constant red LED means that it is on standby mode only.

Now, since you've replaced the power supply board but still the symptoms persist, then the suspect is either the X or Y sustain board but high chance that the fault came from the Y sustain board based on my experienced. Y sustain board is located on the left side of your unit while the X sustain board is on the right side if you are facing the rear cover. These boards has a ceramic fuse(white color) and pico fuse(looks like resistor), please check the continuity of the fuses to determine which board gone to malfunction. If you found an open fuse to Y-sustain board then you need to replaced it. Blown fuse means that the circuitry on its line gone to excessive current.

I would advice you also to inspect the electrolytic capacitors on these boards. Most of the time loud pop came from a blown capacitor and has a physical indication of fault like bulged/dome at the top and can be easily identify through visual inspection. It can give you an idea also which board gone to malfunction. See sample picture below of faulty electrolytic capacitor with bulged dome at the top.

Hope I've gave you an idea what's going wrong to your set.

Have a nice day and take care!

Hello,

Problem is in either power supply or the Y-Sustain board.

The Y-Sustain is a relatively large board out of which go connections to the side of the display; it's therefore closer to either the left or the right side of the display, has at least one rather large heat sink on it and fat power cables connecting it to the main power supply.

Often there are fuses on that board - one or more. Check those.

if they are blown you can try to replace them, but expect them to blow again - usually the whole board needs to be replaced.
Hoping this will help in solving the problem......

TV have sound but on picture, screen is black, can change channels, TV works like radio

Hi,

You can solve this type of problem by opening the television, but caution must be taking to ensure proper troubleshooting, because the panel contains high voltages.

42" Sanyo HD Plasma TV (Model DP42746)

Scott,
Not at all crazy! The Samsung/Akai lines seem to have numerous problems with their Y and Z sustain boards and upper/lower Y driver boards (aka buffers). That and power supplies are generally the largest percentage of the problems in those units. That said, I'm a bit confused looking at the p/n you referenced. I don't see that as being a Samsung number belonging to a Y-sus board. Usually they start with BPxx-xxxxxx..
Lastly, while you might have every ability to replace the Y-sus board if the buffers are bad and you don't replace them you could simply burn up the sustain board when you power it up... Installing the buffers is a bit more complex than the sustain board so be really careful there...\
Good Luck
Bill
