My Canon mf4150 has done the strangest thing, ever since I first plugged it in (although it took a while for me to realize it was doing it). I have my phone hooked into the back of the printer, as it's the only way to use my phone and fax from on the same line. But every so often, seemingly randomly (although it seemed to really like to do this when I dialed into my voicemail), the fax would override the phone function, pick up, and try to send/receive information. How do I stop this, or is it something that requires me to send it back to Canon to fix?
Go into Additional Functions ->
select <5 FAX SETTINGS> -> press OK
select <3 RX SETTINGS> -> press OK
select <5 REMOTE RX> -> select OFF
If you turn it back on, you can set the 2 digit code to begin fax reception while you are not physically present at the machine. The default setting was '25'
Hi ...
The problem is with receive mode settings ... Following the below instructions and you can change the receive mode settings which will resolve the problem.
Setting the Receive Mode
-
For [AnsMode], make sure an answering machine is connected to the machine.
If [AnsMode], [FAX/TEL], or [DRPD] is selected, you can select some settings as below:
[AnsMode]
--- [AnsMode CHK TIME] (select time from 10 to 30 seconds for the answering machine to start playing outgoing message after receiving a call)
--- [FAX DETECT TIME] (select the duration from 10 to 70 seconds for the fax to detect)
[FAX/TEL]
--- [RING START TIME] (select the time from 0 to 30 seconds for the phone to start ringing after receiving a call)
--- [F/T RING TIME] (select the duration of ringing from 10 to 45 seconds)
--- [F/T SWITCH ACTION] (select the action the machine will take after the ringing ends, Receive or Disconnect)
[DRPD]
--- [NORMAL RING]
--- [DOUBLE RING]
--- [SHORT-SHORT-LONG]
--- [SHORT-LONG-SHORT]
--- [OTHER RING TYPE]

Usually answered in minutes!
That would be a great solution, except that my receive mode is on manual--i.e. it's never supposed to pick up as a fax unless I tell it to. Not only that, but it will pick up when I'm 30 minutes into a phone call... Plus, because the person on the other end hears that horrible "fax" noise, I'm guessing that the fax is trying to *send* something rather than receive. (Just a guess, though...) And even stranger, since I also rarely use it to send faxes, I can't imagine that there's anything stored that it thinks it needs to send.
