Greetings
Sorry to disappoint you, but there is a problem with the DSP board .
its a common issue, at the moment am working on it to resolve the issue.
The main Question.
PROTECT MODE is for all the AVR system, not just the speakers.

It's possible that some of your speaker wring has either become loose, damaged, or is shorting. Perhaps even a faulty speaker. Check everything before you turn it on again.

Trying to hook up sony s-master with componet cables an the s-master displays on the display ''PROTECT UNPLUG'' however with nothing plugged in the s-master, works fine

Hi,
Check speaker wires, any wire seems shorted and causing Protect Unplug error message in receiver.
Good way to sort out bad wire is plug one speaker at a time, turn On receiver check, turn Off, then plug next speaker wire until you find out what speaker wire activates protection circuit of receiver.
Thanks.

Protect error

Hi,

If your amplifier goes into the protection, there's really something wrong. There are different kind of protections but usually that circuit does see a DC voltage on your speakeroutput.
So it's a protection for your speakers.

My boombox is displaying the word "Protect" in the display. ???

The protect message indicates that there is a problem with the final stage of the amplifier section. This unit will require repair as a reset will not clear this. There is an audio amp IC inside that needs to be replaced. Figure on about $15 or so for the part.

Protect

The protect message indicates that a problem was found in the output stage of the amplifier. Unless this gets repaired, nothing will work. As a verification that the speakers or the wires are not the problem, unplug all of the speakers and try again. If protect still is displayed, the problem is inside the unit.

It has power but won't work!

There is a problem with the output stage of the amplifier section and the whole unit is in "protect" mode. This means that the output section is turned off. The output transistors are the likely defective parts here. Expect a repair cost of $15-$40 in parts plus the local labor rate.
