Write it down

First make sure the battery is charged, then try this 'factory reset' method instead of the one you mentioned (you will loose all data on the device, so hopefully you have a backup):

Turn off the unit; hold down the volume up and power buttons at the same time until the system recovery screen appears, then scroll down to 'Factory Reset' using the volume button and select using the power button.

Open the case remove the battery leave it sit for a few hours then replace the battery and try again

Note.... Only a certified technician should remove and replace this component.
