FRIGIDAIRE UPRIGHT FREEZER COMPRESSOR VERY HOT

My upright freezer started having problems, it's only around 5 years old. The service guy replaced the (evaporator?) fan. It still doesn't get below 20 degrees. I decided to try and clean it and check the seals. Well I don't know how to get the front off to vacuum, the compressor is so hot that it will burn you if you left your finger there, and the seal is off. I had told the service guy to check that but I guess I can't be heard. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Donna

Well I finally found the screws for the front grill. The compressor started cooling off once the seal was put back in place. So I'm going to give that a day or so. Still did not find the coils I'm assuming that they are in the sides. One thing I do know for sure, is that I'm putting you guys in my favorites. I educated myself so much from your website. I'm not sure I ever had a problem except the seal. I don't have the original motor to check but I'm working on getting it back. If I would have found this website before the tech I would have saved $150.00. Thank you so much.

Freezer stopped after power outage

If the sides are hot, look at the defrost timer. Sounds like it has stopped running with the defrost elements on. The compressor has a safety switch on it that opens either if the compressor gets too hot or if it pulls too much current when starting. If your power flickered a lot before coming back on, that triggered the safety switch. Now that it's running normally, I wouldn't worry. The defrost timer is your problem now.

Upright self def. freezer not getting cold

Is your compressor running? Try this: place your hand on top the compressor, quickly-in case it's hot-it should be vibrating and cool/warm to the touch. If it's not running then the cheapest/fastest test is to try a 3in1 start kit from a local appliance shop. The 3 in 1 start should be around $14 to $20 to wire up. It's extremely simple to wire up, just ask the clerk at the appliance shop's parts counter and they will explain it. I hope this helps you out!!! :)

Have upright Frigidaire freezer, about 2 yrs old, that quit running. Local repair guy replaced part with "3 n/1 Start" solid state relay overload capacitor combination. Worked great for 2 weeks then...

Good day,
That's a no-no. Your compressor carries a 5 year warranty from the factory. However, if anything is altered on it the warranty is voided. You've got an issue with this guy.

Freezer motor cuts in and out. Runs for about thirty seconds at a time. Now have red low temp light on and everything is defrosting. Sides of freezer used to be very warm and are now cold.

Good day,
Some kind of compressor problem. If it will run a true 30 seconds then it is either the start relay mounted on the side of the compressor hanging up and not releasing after the compressor starts or the main windings in the compressor are starting to short, causing the compressor to draw too much current followed by the protective overload shutting the compressor down.
The relay is pressed onto the compressor pins and can be removed.

A parts house should be able to test it for you. If bad, replace. If it tests good then the problem is internal to the compressor and would need the attention of a qualified tech.

P.S. If the unit is under 5 years of age, leave it alone and call for factory service. It may or may not be covered but if so it would be necessary to preserve the balance of the 5 year warranty.

Frigidaire Ultrafreeze upright just stopped working

It sounds as if your compressor it's running. This could be a bad compressor, bad capacitor, bad thermostat. See that there are no fans or defrost, it is one of the other. I would start with checking the capacitor. You can replace it with a Supco 3 in 1. It cost around $30.00. Anything else is going to start costing $100.00 and more. If you need a freezer that big, I would have it fixed unless it ends up being the compressor.

Ice forms on copper pipe under freezer off compressor

it sound like your unit has a bad sensor on it or a leak. you should never have to add refrigerant to a unit unless theres a leak then it has to be repaired firdt the recharged.

Buzzing compressor

heres a part number for the overload relay assy 5304468029.. its mounted on the side of compressor. its a tricky one, usually my experience has been the noise comes from a bad compressor( which you should have 5 year full warr from manufacture). sometimes the overload relay does go bad preventing compressor from starting, the n ew compressor will come with a new overload relay
