I've seen that door lock assemble before and I normally just replace it. But good job on your end to give it a go. That door lock has a coil that when energized it closes on the door strike. When its de-energized, that springs assist to open the lock. I can say exactly where it fits, but look for a spot between the red part on inside. Good Luck

Door won't lock shut

Removing the door safety switch:
1. Disconnect the washer from the electrical supply.
2. Release the bellows from the front panel:

Releasing the bellows (door boot) from the front panel:
The front of the bellows is installed over the lip of the door opening in the front panel and held in place by a spring loaded wire loop.

3. Open the loading door.
4. Using needle nose pliers, start where the spring and wire are connected at the bottom of the bellows and pull the wire out of the groove of the bellows.
5. Pull the bellows off of the lip of the front panel.

6. Remove the (2) screw holding the switch assembly to the front panel.
7. Pull the switch assembly into the door opening and unplug the electrical connectors.

Install is the reverse of removal.

Kenmore elite lock problen

I had the same problem. Turned out, electronic panel behind the door had spring action malfunctioned because of misplaced spring, which in turn caused panel to not generate a signal which, stopped the whole cycle.
Here is what I did to fix the problem- 1. Open the door 2. Remove the ring behind rubber-cover on the door. 3. Reach out to the inside-right of the door. 4. Remove the panel after removing electric connections. 5. Fix the spring action. 6. Put everything back and start the machine over.

Here are the steps to unlocking the door manually if clothes are still in the machine.
1.Unplug machine
2.remove bottom panel
3.Reach up along the inside of the front panel and locate the botttom of the door latch assembly
4.Located on the bottom of the door latch assembly is a tear dropped shaped tab
5. Gently pull down on the tab about a 1/4 inch or until a click is heard.
6. You may now open the door.

This code means the door lock mechanism has failed or the central control unit has failed. Replace the door lock mech. first. This should fix the problem. (before replacing anything make sure there is no obstruction around the switch or in the switch.) After the machine has been unplugged it may fix itself. if not replace door lock mech.

Check your exit hose spigot, it may be clogged. This is if your filter is all clean. There should be air for passage in the standpipe behind. Your hose should not fit airtight into the standpipe and neither too deep into it. Snaking out your standpipe would be good too.

Metal ring aroound rubber seal fell off.

Start with the spring at the bottom, work the retainer around until the seal starts to pull away from the washer. Now grip the loop that the spring attaches to on the side that isn't in place and open the retainer. Push the retainer in place and release the spring.
