The model number is not enough info but assuming it's a run of the mill, Home Depot or Craftsman type electric air compressor, you need to buy compressor pump oil at Wal Mart or an auto parts store. Please don't use Automotive motor oil because that's not going to withstand the heat of your compressor pump and you'll be buying a new compressor because of it. If your compressor has a gasoline, 4 Hp. motor, it needs Mobil 1 synthetic and change it after every 30 hours of operation.
First, what type oil are you using. It should be a non detergent, hd 30 weight oil. Also it would be best to use an oil made for air compressors. Synthetic is best but also more expensive. If the oil looks milky it had water in it from condensation forming inside the crankcase. The tank will get warm and even hot depending on the load the compressor in under. The air exiting the HP side is probably in excess of 200 degrees F. Hope this takes care of your questions.
