There are multiple fixes for this...but the easiest is an extension antenna.

Tablet doesn't pick up WiFi in other rooms. What can be done about that?

Move tour wifi router to a different location, upgrade your router to one with better range or purchase a wifi extender. Most routers have a rang of about 100ft. Better ones can reach as much as 3 to 400 feet.

I have bought a patch lead to connect my ipad to an external antennae. The patch lead has a stick on base to attach to the ipad. What would be the best location on the ipad to attach the base? Thanks for...

Hi there,
To be perfectly honest, I'm pretty sure you can't just fix an antennae onto an iPad and expect to get better signal. RF antenna are highly complicated things that are finely tuned. The iPads' WiFi antenna is behind it's black Apple logo, and if you have a 3G iPad the 3G antenna is inside the little black bar at the top of the back of the iPad. You could have a go at attaching your cable on there, but I very much doubt it's going to have much of an effect.
Hope that helps, good luck!

The kindle's signal strength is not strong once I leave the room where the wireless router is. Shouldn't I be able to use this device in other rooms of my house?

Wireless reception can be negatively affected by a number of circumstances. I can give you a list of things to look out for but no definite solution without having more information about your wireless router, the set up of your house and other factors.
  • Place your wireless router in an elevated position and have the antenna stand upright. Keep it at distance from other machinery, metal decoration or containers filled with water. Metal scatters the radio signal of the router, water absorbs it, both is most unwanted.
  • Drywall (aka plasterboard or gypsum board) is used in house interior as wall covers. Despite its name, it contains plenty of chemically bound water. Therefore, drywall is notorious for blocking the WiFi radio waves. The same applies to armed concrete walls.
  • Some electrical appliances (e.g. many microwave ovens) knock out WiFi signals in their vicinity. The kitchen therefore is no good place for a router.
  • Modern wireless routers use MIMO antenna set-ups, greatly extending range and signal quality. If your router has one antenna only, consider exchanging it for a model with three or more antennas (Netgear RangeMax or Linksys SRX models, for example).
Please add a comment to this solution if you do not feel any of the above applies to you, give some more information and I'll try to fill you in more.
