I received a Whistler 1788 and I dont know how to use it

you can call Whistler at 800-531-0004. The XCS 800 is the same as the 1788 model, just newer.

try radio shack they should have them in stock

Take the unit to your local Radio Shack and they will hook you up with the right equipment.

Make sure that the batteries are fully charged. Does it act the same when no batteries are installed and running from the power cord?

install the windshield bracket, install the batteries, slide the unit onto the bracket and turn it on. For using the other features, it is very detailed in the owner's manual.

Did you look at Whistler's website for R1 error trouble shooting steps?

I found a statement from Whistler Support that is was not manufactured by Whistler Inc. and was produced prior to 1999. If youre somewhat handy, you might want to open it up and read the fcc id number on the logic board. Search for it here; http://www.driverzone.com/fcc_id_search.htm and it will tell you the manufacturer. It may provide some better information to search with. Why would you even want to use something with technology that old? It has a woodgrain housing for petes sake!! :0) Best of Luck
