I'm building a ported box for a single jl6w3. I've ran the specs and come up with 1.5"x12" aero port. That seems small with lots of port noise to me. Anyone have any experience with these guys??

You can verify that the ported enclosure is properly vented by imputting the thiele-small parameters of the driver, as well as the cabinet specs, into a freeware program called hornresp.

SOURCE: Need to build a ported sub box for my alpine swr-1222d subs x 2

Try going to Alpine web site, I think they have box building program as well that you just input your sub models into and it gives you blueprints for various types of enclosures. I know Rockford has one and a comparative attachment to compare equipt specs. Or if you call Alpine headquarters you may be able to get info that way, I once sweet talked a rep @ a demo vehicle I met doing some car shows that turned me on to a senior rep @ Korbon Trading the owners of Rockford Fosgate and they gave me specs for a 5 stage band pass box for some competition subs that was more intricate and detailed than anyone before that could find me, Won me first place in spl. Matching your box specs to your subs is crucial and the best specs are often kept a secret for demo competition vehicles! So ask around with some competition guys or other top experts if your real serious about your boooom.

SOURCE: need specs on a ported box for 1 12"stroker 124

I used to be a Cerwin Vega dealer. How much space do you have? Ideally you would want at least 4 cubic feet per sub. If you shoot me an E-mail @ [email protected] I will be willing to discuss exact plans for your application. I now run a local business designing custom enclosures and electronics for home, marine, and auto. As for your Stroker- A general box design is going to need to be ported with alot of volume (cubic feet) the bigger the better. The actual port diameter and length will be determined after I have some basics from you. I will give you a free design to start with if you Email me the specifics like how much room do you have? how much power? dual 4ohm coils? car, p/u truck, van/suv? The more info the better. If you want something more custom please specify and I will be happy to help.

SOURCE: building a box, need to know best dimensions for box and port

Hello dirt_digger6,

The specific sub you are asking about would seem to be the TS-302F which is the only 12" 800W Pioneer I have located.

Directly from Pioneer's support knowledgebase:
TS-W302F = Ported: 2.5 Cu.Ft. F3 = 39HzPort: 4 x 6.5 tuned @ 37 Hz with 12 % port noise.

An enclosure 16X18X21, constructed from 3/4" MDF will yield 2.69 Cu.Ft., allowing .19 Cu.Ft. displacement for the sub and port.
There's an excellent "box calculator" located here on the12v.com web site. You can measure the space you have to put the box and fiddle with the dimensions to get close to your ideal volume. There are also calculators on the12v.com which will allow you to calculate a port length based on port diameter (or width/height), enclosure volume, and desired tuning frequency.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Specs for Ported Box for 2 12" MA AUDIO HK12X2 Subs

Hello joseph_delac,

MA Audio's website has the recommended box volume and port size online here. A ported enclosure needs 3.0 CuFt of internal volume and the port should be 48 sq/in and 14.5" in length. A 4X12" rectangular port would give you the recommended 48 sq/in. Using 3/4" MDF, a box 16X18X25 has an internal volume of 3.25 CuFt allowing .25 CuFt for the sub and port displacement.

Hope this helps.

There are lots of suggestions, specs and plans for loudspeaker enclosures available online with accompanying formulas for calculating sizes of boxes, ports, etc., but successful results tend to be achieved by experience as much as following plans and tuned port reflex enclosures are akin to the black arts - hifi purists would change the port size after a "bedding in" time for the enclosure and drive unit.

Your subs are rated at 300 rms so clearly you are overloading them at 350/400 and you should be aiming to max them at around 250 in a reflex cabinet. If you really must drive them so hard you really need to consider an infinite baffle as an alternative enclosure.

Subwoofer box specs for single 12" 2500 xtc

Magnat does not post the specs on any speakers! The construction of a speaker box means that you need to know what the following:
1. Diameter of the speaker
2. The tuning or resonant frequency of the speaker
3. The depth of the speaker
4. How much space the speaker frame displaces.
5. The thickness of the wood.
6. The bracing
7. The port (if you port it) needs specs for its displacement
8. The ports volume transmission factor.
9. Whether you want it rectangle, square or trapezoid.

I have 2 12 inch kickers and have a solid box in my mustang. would it sound better if it was ported?

Kicker speakers always require very large boxes (you're looking at 12 cubic feet for both), when ported. Ported boxes are very sensitive to box size, port tuning etc, so it's probably best to leave it sealed, as they are far more leniant, and sealed boxes are usually 1/2 size of ported boxes. You would get less bass when ported than with sealed (because ported boxes must be bigger to match the sealed ones).

If you wish to experiment with the bass response of speakers, download winISD, and put your speakers in, see what size boxes give you what.

I am building a custom box for 2 15 inch Kicker L7's. These will go in the trunk of an 04 Impala. Do I need 4 or 5 cubic feet per chamber in a ported box? Also, what size port should I use? and how long? I...

Hello bgl6176,

According to their specs, the L7's will work in a ported enclosure with as little as 3 CuFt and up to 6 CuFt. Usually with ported, bigger is better, so let's use the 5 CuFt per chamber. I'm assuming that you have room for a 10 CuFt box in the trunk? That's a big box? Almost half as big as a medium sized refrigerator. I hope you don't plan on putting your golf bags in there too. For 10.15 CuFt, a box will need to be 36X29X20, allowing 0.15 for the partition, sub, and port displacement.

To tune each chamber to 30Hz, you need a 4" diameter port 4.6" in length. Lots of custom builders use PVC and even ABS pipe for round ports. You can also buy "pretuned" ports from sites like www.partsexpress.com.

You'll have to measure the exact room that you have available and then adjust the dimensions accordingly.

Here's a link to a great site for calculating almost anything in box building and subwoofer related. You can use the old "multiply LxWxD and divide by 1728" and the other formulas too, but here you can plug the figures in and immediately see the results.

Box dimensions for 15 in cerwin vega

do you want the box ported or unported (holes or no holes) if you don't got a lot of room than you dont want a ported box. keep in mind the box has to have the correct amount of cubic air space or you could seize your sub... if you're building it make sure you use OSB board (oriented strand board) or MDF board(medium density fiber) your sub needs .7cubic feet of air space in an unported box
