You bought the wrong switch. Just because it looks the same on the outside doesn't mean it's the same on the inside(switch). I don't know if you have a bad motor but it is a cheap low-end fan only made for Home Depot!

Ceiling fan speed chain broke off while fan was off. Replaced the 3-speed 4-wire switch with same type and rewired as before. Now fan only has 1 low speed. Could capacitor have gotten damaged?

capacitor tis toast. Have done what you did once. Just remember if/when replacing it...
The capacitor leads are color coded but the motor leads may not be! Tag the motor leads with colored tape before disconnecting the old capacitor, if necessary. Been there too! Differ by brands whether they are color coded.

Is it powered from the same breaker as the fan, check the breaker, if so check the connections. Most likely if its a pull chain switch the switch is bad,,,,, it's common..

Hunter ceiling fan pull chain for fan broke

First write down which color wire goes in which slot on switch.Turn power off! Disconnect wires from defective switch by inserting a paper clip or something a little bigger into the wire connection. Then press the spring down and release the wire to insert in new HUNTER switch. DO NOT CUT WIRES!Call 1-888-830-1326 with model # to order the correct switch.

The chain that control on/off and the speed broke

mcdevito75 here, You"ll have to remove the cover that"s holding the switch. Hopefully you can just un-screw this cover from the ceiling and lower it down the chain that supports the fan from the ceiling, the fan motor itself is bolted to the ceiling beam so that"s not a problem. NOW!! to get a new switch It"ll have to be a 2 or 3 position switch, you may be able to match the switch up at a large hardware store, Home Depot etc. First I would check around and see if you can get the switch, check local hardware stores. The maybe hire a handy man/woman to do the job. If I'm accurate the job is not bad for anyone who is handy.

Ceiling fan won't run but the light does work. Fan has worked in the past but now just the light works. Why would the fan not work? This is a Hampton Bay Northport III ceiling fan ( product of Home Depot)

mcdevito75 here, You say fan worked in the past, That tells me the fan has not run in over 1 month if so, try this. First, the fan motor is a sealed unit, without running the fan in over 1 month it may be a little stiuck, put the fan lights on, and pull the fan chain just once and turn the fan blades themselves just a little to get thm started. also verify fan switch itself is good, Chain switch should have the familiar click click to it. If not the fan swich could be bad.

Ceiling Fan Chain Broken Off

You have to kill all power to the fan and start taking it apart till you get to the switch. There's usually just a bottom plate to remove. Sometimes lights. Replace switch and reassemble. If some chain is still connected to the switch you can add chain to it and won't have to replace switch.

Hunter ceiling fan-just installed -possible speed control problem

Sounds like the fan is defective. All internal wiring from the switch to the motor is factory installed. The fan has power going to it. Just to make sure, double check the wiring from the ceiling fixture to the fan.
Problem could be a faulty switch on the fan or faulty motor(bad winding for med. speed). Try reverse switch on the fan to operate the opposite direction and see if medium speed works. If medium does work in opposite direction, it pretty much points to a defective fan. In any case, unless you discover that the ceiling wires were reversed going into the fan, I'd say new fan to the returns dept.
