SOURCE: Kenmore (frigidaire) model #253.55679400 evaporator fan does not come on

yes, the fan is controlled by the pcb controller, but it is also dependent on the temperature sensor since it is waiting for the sensor to give the signal that the freezer coils has froze up before turning the fan on.

it could be a bad freezer temp sensor.

i hope i was able to solve your problem,

SOURCE: Kenmore Elite bottom freezer refridgerator

I just went through this with my refridgerator and actually posted one of the questions. Here is what I found ........

In the freezer compartment behind the panel there is an evaporator fan which pulls cold air from the freezer and pushes it up into the refrridgerator compartment. If the fan is not working it is one of three things.. 1) there is so much frost in the fan area the fan blade is stopped and cannot push the cold air into the refridgerator compartment or the air channel is blocked. 2) there is no electricity going to the fan (usually tied to the door switch of the refirdgerator compartment, and 3) the motor is dead and will have to be replaced.

Solution to #1 - defrost but there is another problem in the "frost-free" part of the system which must be addressed or the frost will return and it will happen again in the future.

Solution #2 - check to see there is power to the fan. (most are 110VAC but some are 100VDC. Use a meter and check)

Solution #3 - If there is power, the motor is dead. Replace the motor. Be aware that AC and DC motors are different and replace per manufacture's specifications.

Inside the fresh food compartment look for an opening that will allow you to turn the defrost timer clockwise slowly. When you hear it click the refrigerator should go into defrost. If the timer is bad it will need replaced. Let me know. Below is a photo of timer.

The unit will not turn on

Loss of the ground prong on the plug can lead to issues with stray currents that can cause the failure that you describe. The reason for the ground plug is to prevent electrocution because the device is exposed to water. The part you need is here:

My Maytag Refrigerator is not Cooling enough. My Freezer works fine and we have unplugged and let everything defrost and plugged back in but still not working properly. Model # is MFD2561HES

Its possible the evaporator fan is bad. Air is drawn from freezer to cool the refrigerator side and ultimately controlled by the fridge side thermostat. Or... Low freon.

I have a GE GSS25XSRDSS, and its about 5 years old and the fan at the back of the freezer has stopped working, causing the items to defrost. Last time I had a relative of mine check it out, and he said...

The control board costs about $150.00 . You can easily replace this board , due to all the plugs will only plug into the receptical designed for them . Maybe 6 plugins . Pt # WR55X10942 . The control board sends 6-9 volts DC current to the motor . Easily replaceable .

Compressor & Evap. Fan both work for 12 hours then evap stops

I believe that because defrost is done by the mother control board this is why this is happening the part of the board that controls defrost is malfunctioning and the only way to resolve the problem is to replace the mother board part number WR55X10656 You can find the replacement board at these places below. Evap fan stops running/low cooling, Unplug Frig Evap fan runs

Is there anything obstructing the fan area, ice build up ? It is normal for your freezer to get warm if evap fan is not working, it is essential for it to work :) A defrost cycle should kick on a timer or as needed (adaptive) and there should not be excessive frost buildup that it blocks your evap fan. I would have suggested you unplug your refrigerator for about 10 minutes and see if that resets your control board - if not, then you will need service - either replacing motor assembly or a faulty control board.

MSD2756GEB (Side By Side) Runs All the time

I went to the Maytag site and found a similar QA area and found a short article that talked about frost build up and/or blockage of any sort preventing airflow from the freezer compartment to the refrigerator compartment. They said this would impact proper operation of the refrigerator.

I emptied out the freezer after I inspected and found significant frost/ice in the upper right hand corner around the "scoop" that directs airflow into the refrigerator compartment. I took that off and removed all the ice build up (almost 1/2 blockage). I then removed the entire back panel and noticed that my refrigeration unit was completely iced up with significant build up around all the wires and thermostat.

I defrosted the entire unit with the aid of a hairdryer (at a safe distance so not to over heat anything) and then made sure my evaporator coils were all clean in the back and turned the refrigerator back on. (I unplugged it during the defrost operation.) I made sure that the fans worked both above the interior refrigeration unit and at the evaporator unit. Then I waited for the compressor to kick on.

Wallah! Everything so far was working so I put the rear panel back together in the freezer section, closed her up and waited to see what would happen. So far I've had to turn down the refrigerator section to around 5 and the freezer to about 4. The unit now seems to run correctly, shutting off after it runs for a while.

So I guess I'll wait and see how long this defrosting step works. Maybe the self defrost switch or something is not working and the problem will return in a month or so. We'll see..............

Refrig shut off and will not restart - light bulbs still working

this refrigerator sounds like a 'frost free' type, and as such can, usually, only be repaired by the manufacturer. local refrigeration engineers cannot get the parts. your fault sounds like a PCB (printed circuit board) has gone, which only the manufacturers have in stock.

Freezer/Evaporator motor replacement

On my Kenmore bottom freezer, the evaporator fan motor is located behind a grill in the top center of the freezer compartment.  Remove drawers and door.  Pop off the grill by pushing on the tab in the center of the grill and then dislodging one side.  If you see the fan and confirm it isn't working, then you will have to remove the  icemaker.  Disconnect the plug at the rear of the icemaker by pressing on both sides of the plug and pulling.  Then remove the three screws holding the icemaker and remove the icemaker (it will probably have water in it, not ice).
Push the icemaker female plug through the back panel.
Remove the temp sensor cover on the upper right side of the panel.  Careful.  You need to pop the cover loose, then slide the cover off the sensor.
Now remove the four screws holding the back panel and remove it.  Try not to let the panel hit the evaporator fins, which are directly behind the panel.  Also, you'll have to be careful to work the temp sensor up over the top of the panel.
You have clear access to the evap fan now.  Unsnap the temp sensor from the tubing on the right.  Disconnect the  evap fan wiring (left side) and another connector on the right.  Remove two screws, and you have the evap fan assembly in your hand.  Pull the fan blade off the motor shaft (friction fit) and loosen the motor retaining clip.
Voila! You have the old motor in your hand.
Good luck.
