This might be the proper operation of the fan. Is the engine temperature running too high?

Overheating when stopped. New thermostat, new head gaskets. Antifreeze will be boiling and spill out the reservoir no matter what antifreeze level is.

Check your fan, if it is electric fan, make sure it comes on. Check if your radiator is blocked or clogged, Remove it and get it inspected & cleaned by a radiator repair shop

Over heating problems

Hello,

when the car overheats, is there still water in the radiator?

If there is water in the radiator and the car overheats, then it means there might be some dirt or blockage in the radiator or condenser.

When the car is on the motion, air passes through the front and assists the fan to cool the engine. There are situation whereby air doesn't have free flow because of blockage in the radiator and condenser. Dust and debris can cause blockage. If this be the case, have your radiator washed thoroughly and cleaned.

If there is no water in the radiator when the car overheats, then there is a probably a leakage from the water pump. Or maybe your fan isn't blowing properly. The fan might be blowing weak air.

The above are what could cause your engine to over heat.

So start the check from the radiator. Poor water into the radiator, wait for some minutes, look under the car and observe if water is going to leak. If there is a leak, it might be from the water pump or a leaking hose.

If water from radiator has no leak, have your radiator washed and clean the condenser has they might block air that is suppose to cool the engine.

Also, make sure your fan is blowing properly or well enough to cool the engine.

Make sure you have the above checked thoroughly as they are the major causes of problems like this.

This overheating problem could lead to a burnt gasket and this can dry the engine oil which will eventually knock the engine. So have this problem fixed to prevent further damage that will cost you more money.

Lastly, remove the hose that connects the radiator to the engine, water from the engine will come out. Pour water into the radiator, the water will flow through the hose down to the ground. Do this severally. Now connect the hose back to the engine, pour water into the radiator. Start the engine, the water in the radiator will reduce, add more water till radiator is full.

In summary, the major cause of over heating problem is from the radiator, fan, water pump, blockage in the hose, and dirt in in/on the condenser. These are area you need to concentrate on.

I forgot to mention that the acceleration meter or engine meter on the dash board shouldn't be more the 5. It should be below 5. If it is above 5, it can cause overheating. I hope you understand what I mean.....

Regards.

The most common overlook thing is you got a air pocket, so before you go spend your money turn Heather on full blast, open the radiator cap, car running look for air bubbles, takes patience cause you got to wait for the thermostat to open up, you must refill the coolant really really slow snail pace, some car have a bleeding valve others have two chamber on the overflow bottle, good luck, if that doesn't work change the thermostat first and if that doesn't work I'm afraid you may need to replace water pump. . water pump

u should check for a faulty thermostat first, they are only a few quid and easily replaced. if no change ur most likely faults are a blocked radiator or faulty water pump. u dont sayhow old ur van is but after the thermostat go to the radiator, when its hot check the bottom of the rad to make sure its hot, also brown water means u need to bback flush ur cooling system. even tho u have changed some sensors doesnt mean u got the fan switch sender, dash board sender and fan sender tend to be different sensors, so just double check.

Car oveheats when in stop and go traffic or going

All fan comes on that means all temp sensors as well as circuitry are working. The culprit is that the engine has poor coolant circulation to cause this problem. When you on the freeway the air help to cool the engine, but not in a case of stop and go. There are 3 things can cause this problem: a bad thermostat, a bad water pump or a bad radiator. These 3 things can be all together or just only one of them. A radiator has all vertical small tubes inside to carry the coolant passing through and dissipating heat through fins outside. When it gets clogged up, coolant becomes stagnant hence heat is not dissipated causing over heat. The same thing happens when water pump is not turning to propel the coolant in the loop. If a brand new radiator was installed last year then focus on the water pump. If a rebuilt one was installed then it is questionable. Don't ever use a rebuilt one, it is saving only the part but cost a bundle for later labor and headaches. Good luck checking the 3 things to find out a root cause.

Runs hot

Your coolant level sensor has stopped working, my 93 olds regency is doing the same thing. You will need to goto the a Buick/GM dealership to get the part, it plugs into the side of the radiator.

or

am guessing you mean overheat. To "heat up" is normal. We want the car to heat up, but to go any higher than about 225 degrees would be to overheat, and that would be bad. If that is what you mean, then there are a number of things that could be causing it. It could be as simple as to high of a concentration of anti-freeze to water mixture(should be a bout 50%), to something as costlty as a blown head gasket. The water pump could have the impellers rusted off and not pumping, the radiator could be stopped up, there could be air trapped i the cooling system, there could be an obstruction to air flow in front of the radiator like leaves trapped in front of it, the cooling fan may not be working, even the thermostat you installed could be defective or installed backwards. It boils down to this: You either have a coolant flow or an air flow problem. (I am including the blown headgasket in the coolant flow catagory) As simple way to narrow it down is when then car is running hot, put your hand on the radiator. If the radiator is hot, then you probably have an air flow problem, see if the fan is working, or there are leaves in front of the radiator. If the radiator is cold, then you have a coolant flow problem, something is keeping coolant from flowwing into the radiator. (water pump, ai in the system, stopped up radiator, etc)
AS you changed the parts this maybe problem with the air flow in the car

Runs hot

Try the cheapest, and most overlooked first, the radiator cap, theey do wear our where they wil not hold the proper pressure.
If after installing a new cap it still overheats, have the vacuum checked, a low steady reading would indicate a leaking intake manifold, another possible cause of overheating as the vehicle is running too lean.
Another, but not likely item to check is the temperature sending unit, it just might be giving the wrong reading.
