SOURCE: vonage and faxes
Only real solution I know would be to get rid of Vonage. All experiences with Vonage has left a bad taste in my mouth. Regardless of your broadband speed, Vonage uses open internet and is subject to network problems. Fax's require Real-Time communication/transmission control, which is, thus far, not available with Vonage.

Error 232
Severity
16
Error message text
Arithmetic overflow error for type %s, value = %f.
Explanation
This error occurs when Adaptive Server detects an arithmetic overflow error during execution of a SQL statement. Arithmetic overflows occur when a variable has too few places to store the converted data. In particular, Error 232 is raised when an overflow occurs for a variable of datatype float.
Error 232 can occur during execution of the convert function. It can also occur during implicit conversion within Adaptive Server, either during a stored procedure run or during execution of a SQL statement which converts a float value to some other datatype.
Action
Determine which variable is causing the problem based on the datatype reported in the error message output and the SQL statement on which the error occurred. If the error occurs within a stored procedure, an additional error message will be displayed showing the name of the stored procedure and the line number where the error occurred.
Increase the size of the variable that is causing the error. If it is in a procedure, re-create the procedure.
If this error occurs on a Sybase-supplied system stored procedure, contact Sybase Technical Support.

SOURCE: Error 232 receiving fax
fax error 232 indicates a communication failure between the sending and receiving units. I'd check for line noise on the phone (you can hear it as cracks and pops) If your fax line is not dedicated, any noise from another phone pickup or an answwering machine can cause the failure.

Sam here. Anyone have a solution?? We use a voip setup for phones. Wondering if its related. We have signal converter boxes installed.
SOURCE: Error codes 283 and 232 in received Faxes
basically error 232 indicates that a communication failure has occurred between the two machines
Following these steps may help resolving your issue
1. Make sure that the phone cord is
plugged directly from the wall jack into the back port of the fax
machine that is marked "Line" or "To Wall Jack", or that has a
wall-jack symbol.
2. Verify that the line interface unit (LIU) (the box that the phone cord plugs into) is seated fully into the back of the fax.
3. Remove any other device from the line
such as splitters, credit card machines, or telephone answering
machines, and retry the fax communication.
4. Try sending and receiving faxes on a different fax line.
5.Try using a different telephone cord.
6. Have the phone company test your line for static or noise problems.
7. Disable Error Correction Mode (ECM) if the same error occurs repeatedly.
Hope this helps.
