My AKAI says no signal when I try to hook it up to my cable box. How can I get the no signal to go away?

Most TV's now connect via HDMI leads. If your surround system doesn't have these then you will not be able to pass the signals. Some HDMI cables don't always pass the signals so make certain you have a good one that can.
However if the TV has a optical lead you can still pass the sound from the TV to your system. Assuming the system has an optical connection.

did the same with mine then my provider reauthorized all my boxes and it started working again

If the signal output of the cable is being feed to the TV through COAX cable, then you need to set the TV to either channel 3 or 4 depends on the cable box RF OUTPUT setting. If you are using composite video (yellow RCA jack, RED and WHITE for audio) attach to Video 1 of your TV, then set TV input to Video 1.

The message you are seeing means that the tv is not receiving a signal from the source. Try hooking up a different source such as a DVD player or a Cable Box to that same input on the tv. If you have picture and sound then the problem is with the original source. If that does not work then you have a bad Main bd.

I have the same receiver... You can try pressing the Option button and choosing Signal Info to see what audio signal the receiver sees and if that changes over time. Maybe the cable box is not outputting according to specifications... TV can live with that, but receiver maybe can't.
You can also try to connect the cable box via SPDIF cable (optical or coax) to see if it helps or not.

Any HDMI cable manufactured in the last couple of years should all be HDMI 1.1 compliant, your problem is most likely the logic board in the TV itself or the HDMI connector on the logic board has a bad connection..

Have you tried hooking-up a standard DB15 VGA cable to the AKAI TV and your laptop?

If this works your problem is in the TV and will most likely have to be repaired to receive the HDMI signal since your Panasonic DVR and your laptop are not recognized by the HDMI input on the TV.

A converter box isn't going to fix this problem.
Your TV is a Monitor. It doesn't have a built in tuner. That's why it doesn't have a Cable/Ant coaxial port.
The TV needs a cable box for tuning or some other outside source box for receiving signals.

Are you using cable from the cable company or an antenna for reception?

If you're using a conbverter box with this AKAI TV then you don't need it, it already includes an ATSC digital tuner inside it.

If the channel you're referring to is actually KMBC in KC, MO, you may be too far away from their broadcast towers to receive a digital signal, they broadcast on UHF channel 31 which is actually digital channel 29.1, if you go to http://www.antennaweb.org and type-in your address and then click continue on the next page it will show a list of all the broadcast antenna's for your area and how far your house is located from them.

But first, if you have this AKAI TV where you posted your question, then remove the converter box and attach the antenna coax cable to the digital input on the TV and then scan for channels from the TV itself and you should get better results.

do you have another tv ?? so you can test the cable.
sometimes the cable gets corroted by the distribution box and will obstruct any signal or if you do have signal " on another tv " the cable input on your akai is probably broken, if you have the skills try to open it up as see around the cable input box, most common they get un-solder or loose and won't detect any signal

Yes, I seem to have fixed the problem on my Akai using some creative google finds. One of two things worked - not sure which:

1. Leave the set unplugged overnight - it must let the electronics reset when the residual charges clear
2. For my Akai (remotes and models vary), hit in remote's sequence quickly - brightness, freeze, menu, enter - this places you in some screen that offers a hard reset option. That didn't work right away, but i did it before the option above and then the set worked again.

My problem was really odd because it worked for the component inputs and you could see the video and TV signals inside the PIP windows, but not full screen as primary input. Why the TV could 'see' the signals in a PIP windows but not detect them as primary I have no idea.
