The heater wouldn't ignite at all until I connected a full gas tank. Also, there is a crack in the metal tubing surrounding the fire box that sprays a fine stream of water out. Can this be soldered or fixed another way?

ok here is how a heater works - there is a high setting cut out and a low settin cut out. The cycle is as follows. The water heater first heats to a preset temperature , say 120 degress. You draw water and the temp in the tank drops to say 90 degrees at which point it fires again- sensing that if it doesn't you will run out of water.I think that this setting has been set too low to say 75 degrees and you get cooler water because the heater cannot catch up. You must find this control in book at set the differential to twenty degress.This will stop you from running out of hot water.Just for the record less reputable companies will do this on purpose over a coulpe visits adn tell you the heater is failing and must be replaced. Get a book. In the mean time I need your model # so I can find this setting for you.Wait to hear from you. Allen

sounds like the electrical thermostat is defective and is being over ridden by the overheat safety stat.

One of the proper ways to light a gas water heater, is to turn the black knob to Pilot, put a match to the end of the pilot light, while holding the match there, push the red reset button down and hold the match & the reset button down for one full minute. Then, release the reset button and turn the black knob to On. This should keep the pilot light on.

Yes that is going to be the contoll valve on that heater. You can probley fix it very easy with the right part. You will need to locate a plumbing supply over there in the UK. Give them the make and model number and tell them you need a unitroll gas valve for it.

I had this problem with the C2 11 error code. My unit is 1.5 years old. I called Paloma and they emailed me an 11 page document to clean the burners. I am not an HVAC but I got the feeling that's who the instructions were for. Very difficult but you can do it if you're handy. You basically take apart 1/2 the unit, be carfull not to lose any screws and label all the little brackets that come off. It took me 2-3 hours to get to the burners. I used a can of air (for keyboards-electronics) to blow on the burners and clear any build up. After putting it back together (carefull to make sure the 3 gas tubes make a seal when re-installed) the unit works. I did this today so I'm not sure the unit will still work in a week/month. I am dreading having to do this every year to keep the unit running.

it is important to turn off
the gas supply to the water heater at the manual gas shut-off
valve. This valve is typically located beside the water heater.
Note the position of the shut-off valve in the open/on position
then proceed to turn it off.
2. On the lower front of the water heater locate the combination
gas control valve/thermostat. Depress and hold
the lock tab located under the gas control knob on the right.
Rotate the gas control knob on the combination gas control
valve/thermostat clockwise until "OFF" aligns with the mark on
the front of the gas valve. Once the gas supply has been shutoff,
remove outer door. 3. Using a 1/4" nut driver or socket loosen the two screws securing
the manifold door assembly until they are free. Do not
totally remove the screws and plastic retainer washers from
the manifold door. The screws and retainer washers will be
needed to reattach the manifold door. 4. In this step, the thermocouple, manifold tube, pilot tube and
igniter wire will be disconnected from the combination gas
control valve/thermostat. Using a 7/16" wrench
disconnect the thermocouple (left-hand thread) and pilot tube
(right-hand thread). Using a 3/4" wrench disconnect the manifold
tube (right-hand thread). Carefully pull the igniter wire from
the igniter button.
5. Grasp the manifold tube and push down slightly to free the
manifold tube, pilot tube, and thermocouple from the combination
gas control valve/thermostat. when installation is complete and gas is back on, You should be able to relight the pilot and the functionality of your gas hot water heater should be restored.
