Make sure your dvd is powered on with a media and set to play

Now you will also need to use the tv remote to select input source as RCA or components.

Att uverse hook up hd tv

I do not own a blue ray player but my son has a PS3. The thick cable is most likely HDMI and it should work without the red/white sound cable...try unplugging them so the auto detect feature if available and activated is not trying to compete by finding 2 sources. If that works great! If not, you can get a yellow RCA for the video and just use those as a source - again, don't use the HDMI cable and try it. If you don't have a yellow RCA, I've used another red or white for video testing to see if I can get a video feed. Most newer red/white cable will pass a video signal just fine and are only color coded for ease of hookup.

Sd dish reciever not recognized by hdtv tuner

Hey dgrines81!

I would need more information to provide an accurate solution including what model of receiver, but it sounds like you have an SD receiver hooked up to a HD TV.

Our SD receivers can show picture on an HD TV, they just need the correct cable. If your TV has the spot, I would recommend using RCA (Red, Yellow, White) cables. Plug those in to the receiver and the TV and then change the input. If the problem continues feel free to reach me here, or at [email protected].

My receiver will only play mono sound...when i hook up just red/white audio cables to my dtv setting. if i plug both in the sound is almost muted. i can hear sound clearly from one side as i plug one or...

Please clarify this statement: "...when i hook up just red/white audio..". Is that for only the one external source or all?

It's not clear if you tried the red and white cable swap at BOTH ends to isolate the signal loss to the source or the receiver.

The TV's audio controls determine how loud and in what format its audio exits on the RCA cables.

WHY do you need audio from the TV in the first place. If its programming originates at a Cable BOX THAT would be the best place to use as the audio source - and digitally to boot.

Digital sources must be assigned in the receiver setup. It's in the manual.

TV is not responding, turns on and off and does not show picture nor sound, does not move from channel 22-2

Couple of things.
  • Are you on an antenna or cable/sat box?
  • If you are on an antenna, the sub-channel of a local DTV station (22-2) was the only thing the digital receiver was able to pickup on the initial scan of channels.
  • If you are on an antenna, rescan for available channels.
  • If you are on a cable/sat box, and scanned for channels you probably picked up a like channel that is in the same bandwidth as 22-2. Probably not even a channel.
  • If you have a cable or satellite box, hook it up to one of the VIDEO channels using either a Composite AV cable (Yellow/Red/White) or a Component A/V Cable (RED/GREEN/BLUE with RED/WHITE for audio. If you are lucky enough to have HDMI for your source, use that.
  • Going forward, all of your changing channels will be from the SOURCE.

I'm trying to hook up my Xbox 360 to my Advent LCD TV and I can get it working but the game has no sound or color. I've tried several plug combinations but I just keep getting the same results. So where...

The best thing to use is a scat converter Yellow,Red, and White to scat, but other than that the Yellow,Red, and White plug into the back or the side of the tv.
if you use the converter it wont auto detect like it does with a DVD player or free view box,you will have to change the tv source manual AV1 or AV2 for the scat & S-VIDIO for the Yellow,Red, and White.
If that doesn't work try it on another tv if it's still the same change the cable,or if your tv's HD get a HDMI cable.

Connecting dtv box to vcr to dvd to the tv

you can hook the cable box into the vcr and then out of the vcr into the spliter which will turn your tv red/white/yellow signel input into two inputs( you can get this at most radio shacks for about $7.00 dollors) this leaves you with one more input for the dvd player

TV channels

If cable is hooked through cable box with a coaxial cable, then turn tv to ch 3 or ch 4 as appropriate.

If cable is hooked through any other type of cord (red/green/blue or red/white/yellow) use the AV+ or Source button to change your source to Av1, AV2, HDMI, or however you have the cable box hooked to TV (I am assuming your TV is a Philips).
