    Hi,

The current hard drive is 4.8gb and Bios will only accept a10 or 12gb at most with windows 98 on it plus disk is a 12.5mm thickness so most new drives wont fit bay.

I have no experience of upgraded Bios either.

    Thanks for your help.

    Regards,

    Ryk

Here is a link that will give you all the updated bios and drivers. In this there is a link for Bios Update (Diskette), you need to follow the instructions there. The BIOS upgrade is usually these steps.

  1. Download the BIOS update to another computer
  2. Run the BIOS file you downloaded
  3. This will ask you to create a boot disk for the other machine, have a diskette ready that is compatible with your machine
  4. Insert the diskette into your computer and boot it up to the diskette.
  5. The diskette will then take over and ask you to not reboot or touch the screen as the BIOS is updated.
  6. The system will reboot, and your BIOS will be up to date.
The following links help you to know what drivers for what operating systems and components are required.

As for new parts for your computer, you can find them here. This link tells you how to update the HDD and the 9.5 mm HDDs are availble. There are 30GB or 40GB hdd.

It's possible to go higher, like night71 describes, but if you want to keep it simple, this might help.

Sorry to but in with this one. I have a 300GB drive and works great with Windows XP. I had to format it on a MAC so Windows recognized the large size. Sounds funny but if you can find a MAC, then your problem is solved.

Assuming you have Windows XP, the hard drive limit would be 137GB. You can go higher than that, but you'd probably have to upgrade your motherboard and do some registry modifications.

My laptop ibm thinkpad r52 my problam:-my upgread hard disk 160gb.but no sport to 160gb hard disk.my laptop on to message ERROR 2010:- The hard disk driver you have installed has not been qualified for use...

You are most likely trying to place a larger hard drive in the pc than the operating system will recognize. If you are using winXp you will need to slipstream the SP2 packet update into the CD...Could be with that R52 the bios will not support large disk volume either..

No network driver installed on my IBM 390x 2626-lou. Where con I get the driverdownload and remember I cant connect the computer to the internet.

do you have a friend or neighbor with internet connection? if so, then ask them to go to the IBM site and download the driver to a flash drive or a CD. you will be able to install it from either device. you may need your model number and serial number to get the right driver.
if your local library allows downloads, then you can search IBM yourself and load it to a Flash drive.

Where can i download 390x ibm think pad xp recovery disk cause i have a problem with my souncard and video card pls help me!!!!

You do not need a recovery disk, just download the drivers you need.
Go to the IBM/Lenovo WEB site - support/download page and download the latest Windows XP device drivers for your model computer, Use this link: -
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?template=%2Fproductselection%2Flandingpages%2FbrowseByProductLandingPage.vm&sitestyle=lenovo&brandind=10&validate=true
You can download the various drivers and then you click on and run the various driver files, they will then unzip and expand into a folder on C:\drivers Then install the various drivers from this folder.

Hardrive upgrade on IBM i 1400 Laptop ?

Hi! It's correct that your Thinkpad will only accept up to 512 mb of memory, and only certain chips will work with your unit. Here is a link that shows the memory that will work.

http://www.4allmemory.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=search.memorySearch&model_id=-1192&pid=399

Below is a link for recommendations for a hard drive upgrade. It looks like you can go up to a 250 gig drive using Western Digital. Hope this helps! Hal

I have a hard drive password that i need to remove please help i need to know where the rtc battery is on a acer

The password that was created on the hard drive (especially if it came from an IBM, or HP/Compaq) cannot be removed by removing the BIOS battery. The password is stored on the firmware chip and there are no backdoor passwords.
The power on password and hard disk password are created from the BIOS setup and it is stored on an EEPROM chip on the laptop.
These password protection methods are designed to prevent unauthorized access to the laptop its data and the hard disk data. Removing the hard disk and inserting it into another computer will not work.

My borther has a 390x ibm thinkpad 2626 and he is looking for a upgraded processor

Current processor should be a Pentium III 450 MHz.
As far as I know, the standard RAM os 64 MB and maximum RAM is 512 MB. Even a memory upgrade will cost you around 80$.

I would honestly suggest to forget a processor upgrade because it will cost you a lot of money. Probably more than a new laptop.
Sorry...
