The new phone must fit into the base cradle for registering to even be attempted. You gave no model numbers, it is likely your newest handset is not compatible with the rest of your system... but we can sometimes "cheat". If the new handset is displaying "To register, place on base..." but it simply does not fit -- try removing the battery cover and see if wiggling the handset will allow the "charging" lamp to come on: then wait to see if it will register. You can find the base model number on a small sticker on the bottom of the base, the handset model numbers are on stickers under the battery.

NEED TO DEREGISTER LOST HANDSET

The "END" and "#" key combination can be used for several purposes:

1) If wanting to use an ALREADY REGISTERED HANDSET on an alternate base, and if if the INITIAL BASE isn't available to deregister the handset:

1a) Press "END" + "#" until it for 5+ seconds (wait for it to beep)
1b) Choose the "Base Unavailable" option
1c) That'll deregister the CURRENT HANDSET so that it can be re-registered on ANY base.

2) If a BASE has a handset registered to it which you no longer want registered but the registered handset is missing or broken:

2a) Grab another WORKING handset which is properly REGISTERED to the BASE in question
2b) Press and hold the "END" + "#" key for 5+ seconds (wait for it to beep)
2c) Choose the "Deregister HS" menu option
2d) Pick the REGISTERED HANDSET # to de-register. (Every other registered handset EXCEPT THE ONE YOU'RE ON will appear in the list!)

TOO FAR FROM BASE

Hi! This may cure your problem!
Re-registering the handset

even when the handset is near the base

used.

each other when re-registering the
handset.

handset which has lost its link to the
base by placing the handset on the base
unit or charger.

other extension will stop functioning.
1 Handset:
Press {MENU}.
2 Scroll to “Initial setting” by
pressing {V} or {^}, then press {>}.

Adding handset to Panasonic KX-TGA542M phone. ? how to ?

I ordered a new kx-tg560m handset for my kx-tg5632 base unit, but the enclosed instructions for registering it with the base unit were wrong. Fortunately, I found the old quick setup guide in my files.

If you do not have the same base unit and handset, go to the URL:
http://www.panaxonic.com/RegisterYourHandset.

1. On the handset, press [MENU], then press [0][0]. The handset displays "Refer to manual to prepare base. Then press OK->"
2. On the base unit, press [SELECT] until the desired extension number [H1, H2, H3, or H4] is displayed on the base unit, then press and hold [CALL] until the CHARGE indicator flashes.
3. On the handset, press the [OK] softkey.

When the handset is off and sitting in the charger, the handset's extension is displayed in the upper right corner.

Mother phone

When setting up GE phones, they are placed in the base station for ~20 seconds to register them on the system. The order that the phones are registered is the order they are allocated extension numbers for transferring calls etc.
The FIRST phone registered, becomes a mother phone, and the base station is ALWAYS a mother phone.

Problems with C110 & A110 Vtech Mirage Dect Home phones

Have strangely got the same problem - about the same time you posted this, but intermitently. I have isolated that the problem is in fact the handset itself, not the base unit. I eliminated a problem with the base unit by a) registering a different DECT phone to it. - The base still works fine. b) Leaving the handset switched off for an hour or so (press and hold the "OK" botton to switch off / on); then whislt it was working, registering the handset to a different base (Base 2). And guess what, after 30 mins the "BASE 2" message started flashing on the faulty handset.
So, if you already have an A110 extension handset, make sure it's also registered to base 1 and maybe try to get just the handset repaired via VTECH. (or just buy a new handset if they are available).

Wireless phone extension not working on receiver. Red light and horrible sound hen connection is attempted

You need to register the unit it will work:
1.
Make sure the Base Unit is switched on and has a Green light showing.
2. Unplug everything connected to the Base Unit sockets (you will reconnect them later).
3. Plug the Extension Unit into a power point near the Base Unit, switch on the power and watch the light on the Extension Unit.
4. If the light on the Extension Unit is not glowing a steady Red then the Extension Unit must first be deregistered. Follow Step A and Step B in
the Deregistering an Extension Unit box below then try to register the Extension Unit again.
5. Plug one end of a supplied line cord into to either socket on the Base Unit and plug the other end into the extra Extension Unit
(This cord is used to do the actual registering).
6. The light on the Extension Unit will glow Red for up to a minute and then change to Green or Yellow.
7. Once you have the Green or Yellow light on the Extension Unit, unplug the line cord between the Base Unit and the Extension Unit
(You can unplug the Extension Unit – it will remember being registered).
8. Plug in everything that used to be connected to the Base Unit sockets.
9. Install the extra Extension Unit as per the Extension Unit Installation steps on the other side of this page.

Just bought an additional handset for GE 27951 expandable 6.0 DECT Cordless. I press and hold the Page button for 5 seconds but the new handset will not register. Error keeps occurring "no base."

This exact thing happened to me. Same model number. No matter what I did, the new handsets would not register.

The solution? Reset the entire system:
1. On the BASE - Unplug from wall both power and phone line. Unplug battery from base handset.
2. ON the Extension phone - unplug from wall and unplug battery from handset.
3. Wait AT LEAST 5 minutes.
4. Plug back in BASE power.
5. Plug back in BASE phone line.
6. Plug back in EXTENSION handset battery. Don't plug in BASE handset yet.
7. Follow steps to program EXTENSION. When successful:
8. Plug back in BASE handset battery.

How do I add an extension handset to my current config?

IF it was a used handset it was likely registered to another base. I just switched bases (1line to a 2 line base). I had to "deregister" the handsets from the old base. I am not sure if you can deregister if the old base is not present? With the old base plugged into power I hit the "function key" at the bottom left of the handset and scrolled down to initial settings. Under registration is "deregistration". I selected that and it put the handset back to its default out of the box. Then simply hit the mute button on the New base and OK on the handset. Worked for all 5 of my old handsets.

Hope this helps

I can vouch for the second solution. It worked perfectly on my 2461 with two extensions. Even the vTech website was not able to provide a solution.
