My projector is displaying 'The projector's operation will be locked'. What should I do? Some Epson projector models include a password protection feature as a precaution against theft. In the case of special, educational use only 'e' editions like the EB-X6e, this security measure is enabled by default.
When password protection is enabled, entering the wrong password three times will cause the projector to be locked. A power cut or other power outage can also trigger the projector's security. In either case, the projector will then display:
  • "The projector's operation will be locked"
  • "Request Code xxxxx" (a 5-digit number)
This article explains what to do if you receive this message, and answers some related questions.
The projector will display the error message for approximately five minutes, then switch to standby mode. When this happens, follow the steps below to reset the projector.
Warning: Please follow these instructions exactly, and only carry them out when absolutely necessary. Entering a password incorrectly 30 times in succession may cause your projector to become "hard locked". If this happens, your projector can only be unlocked by a specialist engineer.

How to reset the projector

  1. Power off the projector using the power button on either the projector or the remote control.
  2. Remove the power cable from the back of the projector. Caution: You must physically remove the power cable from the projector. If the projector is ceiling-mounted and connected to the mains by a long extension cable, ensure that the cable is fully unplugged from the wall or ceiling power socket. The projector must be completely disconnected from the mains power supply or it may not reset correctly.
  3. Leave the projector disconnected from the mains for 15 minutes.
  4. Reconnect the power cable and power on the projector.
  5. The projector should display your normal password prompt screen. Enter your password and the projector should resume normal operation.Otherwise, if the projector still displays the same message, repeat the steps above and ensure that the projector is fully disconnected from the mains for 15 minutes. If there is still no change then contact Epson for further advice. Please note that you will need to provide the following:
    • The projector's serial number (located on the rear of the unit)
    • The 5-digit Request Code displayed by the projector
    • A copy of your proof of purchase for the projector

I am trying to get a universal remote control to work with my Epson 835p powerlite projector. I cannot find the code needede. I tried seaching on the remote but that did not work. Please help

Usually the multimedia units use different codes to domestic appliances. I expect you may have to browse ebay for a correct replacement remote.
Hope this saves you time and helps.

My Epson Powerlite 5350 has a ghost image. Any recommendation on how to adjust the projector to remove this symptom?

I've got the same problem on two Epson EMP7300.
I believe (from reading about other projectors) that the ghost image can be adjusted with RS232 codes.
Does anyone know how to do this?

Epson 6100i projector password needed

The default code for Epson projectors is 1 7 9 3 while holding down the number button on the remote control, if this doesn't work then the code has been changed. This code will need to be entered whenever the projector is disconnected from the power supply so if you do change it, make sure you keep a note of what the new code is.

Need to replace the bulb in an epson e71 projector

Hi, this is pretty straight forward. Make sure the projector is off and cooled. On the bottom is the Lamp cover, press the two tabs and lift the cover off. Loosen the two retaining screws and pull the lamp assy upwards to remove. Fit the new lamp and tighten the screws then rfit the lamp cover. You will need to reset the Lamp hours using the "About" menu after turning back on (Not the "reset all" menu).

Epson EMP-82e locked out

The only way to unlock one of these machines is to contact Epson and ask them for a Master Unlock Code. You will need ALL the machines details and they may ask for proof of purchase etc. Getting a Master Code is an arduous task. It is an anti theft measure after all. Be prepared for the run around.
