Compaq Evo N1000c overheated with replacement battery I bought on-line on e-bay. Any suggestions on a safe one?

If you just replaced the CMOS battery, when you took the battery out it lost all of its BIOS settings. You will need to go back into the BIOS and set the time and date as well as all of the other settings that you require. If you do not know all of the settings you can find the option to set it to the default settings. This will usually work to boot the computer.

As the Video Card is integrated into the Motherboard for your Model, the only way to upgrade is to change the entire board with a larger integrated Video Card. I believe there is a board with a 64MB ATI Card available. Cost of this board replacement may be more than ugrading to a newer system with higher performance specifications. double check, are you downloading ATI video driver ? XP or W2K.

Wouldnt fancy taking one apart myself, replacement ones are not very expensive, look here on battery trader , Compaq Evo N600c laptop battery

I'm not familiar with this laptop but all I have worked on in the past have a series of tabs along the top of the keyboard, usually I can use a jewellers screw driver to gently ease one tab back at a time and then slip in something like a credit card to keep the tab back.

Once you have all of the tabs held back you should be able to lift the keyboard out.

For the built-in wireless on this model (EVO N1000C) the key combination to enable/disable wireless is Fn + F2. If pressing the Fn and F2 keys together does not enable the wireless, it may be disabled in the BIOS.

If you need to check this, here are the instructions to enter the BIOS:
Turn off the computer. Power it on and immediately start tapping the F10 key about once per second until you see the BIOS screen.

Looks like the battery is screwed. This usually happens with laptop batteries when not recharged for a certain amount time(Usually around 2-3 months). Replace the battery and every thing will be back to normal.

yes u r right mr.. but its not a video driver problem its a problem due to u r video card or graphics card so replace it u will get result..
