Question about Radio Shack TRC-447 CB Radio

Clipping the Mod limitter

My trc 447 is low and i want to clip the mod limitter and i do not know which one it is so can you please help me with finding the right one or point me in the direction to where i can find the wiring manuals for it

DO NOT CLIP THE LIMITER! You may wind up with splattering audio. The best thing you could do is find the modulation pot and turn it a bit to achieve more modulation. I am not familiar with your radio, so I could not tell you where that pot is. You may be disappointed in the results if you clip the limiter.

Got a radioshack trc-487 and I need some information on how to peak and tune it... wheres the modulation pot? which coils do I tune? and whats the numbers on the motherboard
  • There is no need to send the radio to some unsanctioned moonlighter.
  • I normally don't recommend clipping parts but for this radio there is not much else to do and it looks OK on an Oscilloscope too. Clip diode 205 to increase modulation. Then take a plastic flat tool and spread L 203 coils apart about a 1/8" each, nice and even and make sure they don't touch any metal.

Have trc 457 need to clip mod limiter, what to look for?
why do you want to clip the limiter ? you will be overmodulaing the audio and bleeding over all the channels and this is great but also a good way to loose friends because while you are talking they cannot listen because your voice will be coming through their radio. the best thing to do is leave it alone and find the variable to turn the mod up then you should be at around 90% modulation .

How to set CB TRC-447?
There is a mod for the TRC-447. The AMC sensor is Q205 and I never really recommend cutting anything related to the AMC but this radio is the aception to the rule. I posted a picture for you. The red marking is Q205. Follow these instructions carefully and you should have a much louder CB. Q205 has three legs. One on one side and two on the other side. You need to cut the soldier leg on the side with two legs. This will be the leg closets to the bottom of the diagram I posted. Use a razor and and perhaps a magnifying glass and be very steady. You want to make a complete cut until you see nothing but the circuit board. You may have to make more than one pass. It is very important you only cut the bottom leg. When your done with that turn the radio over and spred L205 and L203 with a plastic screwdriver. Spread them evenly and make sure they don't touch anything when you are done.

A great mic is the RK56 $39.99+tax in Temple, TX on Hwy 95.. And comes with a 4pin for cobras but can be wired for any radio

Radio shack trc-447
According to the service manual for the TRC-447, the only adjustment is for "power" which is #L205. The only other step in the transmitter alignment is for the "S" meter.
On the Cobra, VR4 is AMC, L14,L13,L12 is AM power.
