Question about HP XW9400 - Refurbished XW9400 Workstation AMD Dual Core OPTERON 2.4G

1 Answer

Need pinouts for XW9400 case connectors (not the PSU connectors, just the ones for the cables from the case)

I'm trying to put an elderly Supermicro motherboard into an XW9400 case. The original Tyan mb went bad, but the case and power supply are of very high quality. But I need to re-organise the case connectors as the first step.

Tyan's published manual for the S2915 is for a different version than the one they OEM'd to HP, and HP's Service and Tech Reference supplies pinouts only for the well-defined connectors whose pinouts can be found anywhere.

The pinouts I need are for the proprietary connectors: J34 especially, J12, P24, P23 (possibly it's audio, so I don't know whether they messed with it), and what might be P26 (4 adjacent pins in a 5-pin block, sitting just to the left of the SAS connectors)

Many thanks!

Testimonial: "Thanks, Matt, but I already searched that manual and, as I mentioned in my question, it doesn't have pinouts except for the industry-standard connectors."

The front USB header on the XW9400 board has a ground connected to pin #10. The USB standard #10 pin has nothing connected to it, so HP uses it to sense whether a connector is attached to the header.

Pinouts power supply for hp d530 ultraslim

Hi lantzgema,
I looked up the specs of your d530 and all I could find out is that you have a 150 power supply, calling HP technical support was no help at all.
I did find some pinouts you can look at and determine which one exactly you have. Hope this help out.

If this is still not what you have there are other pinouts at the same website.

Ive antec pc case with twin 550 psu's there are five sockets

The Power supply willhave to pin #16 connected to pin #15 for an ATX power connector. It would bebest to purchase a Power Supply Tester for about $20.00, which will test allvoltages with a load and give you a go or no go signal. If you want to use ameter to check voltages, here is a link for the pin outs.

Supermicro X6DAL-TG boot problem

I have 3 of these boards; however, they all have the Nocona Xeon with a Front Side Bus speed of 800MHz. The manual does not say anything about using a 533fsb. A second thought was if your power supply is an ATX with a 24 pin power connector and two +12 connectors one 8 pin and one 4 pin? The manual states all three need to be connected for the Xeon Processor.

SuperMicro X7DAL-E will not power up

I am using the same board with a PC Power and Cooling 1 K Watt power supply which is a little high in price and no longer available. I have been using PC Power and Cooling since the 1980’s and have had few problems and they have always kept up with the latest power standards if not exceeding them. The replacement power supply has even more power.
However, you can find adapters to use 4 pin IDE drive Power connectors for the 4 and 8 pin power connectors. PC Power and Cooling and Cables To Go both sell them. That is the cheapest fix for you but I would also use the PCI-E auxiliary power connector.

JVC 8 pin pinout - speaker cable

Looking at the connector, there are 3 rows of pins.
Starting with the first row closest to the alignment mark:
[Power On],[Center Speaker],[Sub Woofer]
[Surround Right],[Speaker Ground],[Surround Left]
[Right],[Left]

If you are trying to connect two JVC units, you will need an 8-pin cable that has the SAME pins connected on each side. You will need to test this using a multimeter set to ohms or 'connectivity'.
There are other 8-pin cables out there like the one for apple networking, but they use a crossover pinout where pin 1 on one end = pin 3 on the other end. This is bad. JVC needs pin 1 to = pin 1.

This is a standard connector/pinout setup that JVC uses, so connecting a TH-C3 to a TH-C50 works fine. There is a bunch of intermixing that you can get away with. The only thing to keep an eye on is the power in watts that one unit sends and the other recieves. Worst case is that the speakers are quiter than expected or that you can turn the volume up so high that it can damage the speakers. In all cases, you should get desired volume somewhere on the dial.

If you are trying to wire the speaker set custom, then you will need to take note that an '8-pin' connector is actually a 9-wire connector. Along with the above pinout, you will need to add Case Ground, which is the metal circle that surrounds the pins. To make the speakers turn on, you will need to apply 12v to the Power On pin and ground the 12v source to the Case Ground outer ring.
The system takes 3 to 4 seconds to fully turn on after this connection is made. Speakers should be wired using the center pin for speaker ground and each other pin respectful to each speaker.
