Question about Sony KP-57HW40 57" Rear Projection Television

How do I check the fluid in the red and green guns? What kind of fluid is it? Or should I just replace them? Are they expensive and where do you get them?

You cant. The fluid and other parts are not available anymore. This TV is too old to repair reasonably. To replace the tubes would be over a $1000 if you can even find them.

You've lost your green lite it probably went out or you blew the fuse. Google for info to get lite and where the fuse is if necessary . TVs need red blue and green guns or you get what you have. The bulbs for those sets are very expensive or use to to be maybe not so much anymore

After turning the tv on the colors are reddish and slow to conform to the normal color tones. i have a 36" toshiba flat screen tv

My first concern would be that, the picture tube is going bad. The problem you describe, tell me one of the color guns is shorting. In this case I would think the green gun is shorting. There are three color guns in the neck of the picture tube. They are red, green, and blue. Most of the time the green will short as it is powered heavily in most TVs. The next thing to check, is the small board connected to the picture tube. Look for any and all bad grounds on this CRT board. This is another big problem in all Tube type TVs. On this small board there will be three color output transistors, and resistors. These will many times run very hot and will create bad grounds over time. Check and resolder as necessary. If the CRT board does not fix your problem, replace the TV. Picture tubes are very expensive and will not be feasible for replacement. Search for a new TV. No Red color at all. The convergence feature does not work either. Lots of green and blue RCA Model D52W59

Red color gun has failed, which will make the picture over saturated with the other two colors(blue,green) the bad news is the three color guns need to be replace in a set(all at the same time) because if you only replace the red it will over saturate the older blue, green guns then your picture will be mostly red.Unfortunently in most cases it's not worth the investment, better off to purchase a new tv. Your projection tv screen is made up of a mixture of red, green, and blue. If you are starting to see more green than any other, that means the red and blue light guns are warn out. This will be more expensive to repair than buying a new tv. :(

Green and Red guns seems defective and requires replacement.
Both guns (CRTs) are no longer available so TV has no worth to repair.

Sounds like the red guns aren't firing. Check the pins on the VGA cable to make sure that none are bent. Also plug in a different video card (or plug the monitor in to a different computer). If the monitor is fine, then you need to replace the video card.

If they aren't, you're looking at a fairly expensive repair.

the fluid in the bule gun is cloudy therefor the image you need to replace the fluid (coolant) inside the gun. the fluid is toxic (eytholene glycol). so have a tech do this for you. the repair may cost $ 325.00 or so.
