The dark screen on the calculator, i can't see the numbers

Personally I do not know why because I do not lnow what the calculator went through. However, if the calculator was working correctly but after you changed the batteries it does not seem to come alive when you press the ON button, then I may have an idea. Here it is.

After you change batteries, the screen may become too dim or too dark. For your case it may be too dimm.

To darken the screen, follow the procedure below.
1. Press the [2nd] key and release it.
2. Press the UpArrow and hold pressure on it (to darken screen) or DownArrow to lighten screen.
As you keep the UpArrow held down, you will see somes numbers at the top right corner of the screen. You mifgt first see a 2 or a 3, then the next number and it keep increasingAfter a while it becomes too dark to see anything.

To lighten the screen
1. Press the [2nd] key and release it.
2. Press the and hold the DownArrow
As you keep the DownArrow held down, you will see somes numbers at the top right corner of the screen. You mifgt first see a 8 or 7 , then the next number and it keeps decreasing.

Release the Arrow keys when the screen contrast is to your liking.
If you overshoot your intended screen contrast you can revert the process by reverting the procedure.

To lighten the screen, turn the calculator on, press and release the 2nd key, then press and hold the down-arrow key. If you go too far, press and release the 2nd key then press the up-arrow key.

Try adjusting the screen contrast. Press and release the 2ND key, then press and hold the up-arrow to increase or the down-arrow to decrease the contrast.

To adjust the contrast, turn the calculator on. Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow to increase or the Down-arrow to decrease the contrast.

Increase screen contrast.
Press [2nd] key and release it.
Press and HOLD the Up Arrow to daraken the screen
Keep pressing Up Arrow until display is dark enough for you.

If it is too dark
Try reducing the contast as follows
1.Press [2nd] key and release it
2.Press [DownArrow] and release it
3. Keep repeating the sequence until contrast is adequate.

If it is too light increase contrast
To increase contrast Do the same but press [UpArrow] instead of [DownArrow]

Try 2nd and all the way down arrow

Turn on the TI 83 enter 1234
1. press the <2nd> once; press and hold the <up-arrow> until you get the numbers as dark as you want. If you let up and press the arrow key again you have turned the function off. You must start over by pressing the <2nd> key then the <up-arrow> key and hold.

2. If the numbers are too dark; press <2nd> once and hold the <down-arrow> to get it corrected.

3. If this does not correct the light/dark screen condition you need to buy new batteries!

Remove one of the AAA batteries. Press and hold the DEL key. While holding DEL, reinsert the AAA battery and then turn the calculator on. The calculator should display "Waiting...Please install calculator software now". Follow the instructions for the TI-83 family or TI-84 Plus family to reinstall the calculator operating system.
