Question about GE Advantium SCA2000B Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Advantium oven has no power

There is no power to oven. I have reset the breaker and still nothing.

Came home and the advantium 240 was dead. Nothing. Checked the outlet and the fuse box. Not the problem. We weren't even home today so it wasn't even being used. Just came home to it being completely out.

Actually got in there and the fuse was fried also the fuse holder.

    Thanks for your help.

Same problem, was cooking one day and the oven just died, ended up being a blown fuse and melted fuse holder. Looks like GE is using a different plastic for the replacement as it seems the original has a tendency to do this.

Mine blew while I was cooking. I'd replaced the Mag a year ago with no problems. I replaced the fuse and ran the microwave on just the halogen heating elements (using NO microwave power). Everything worked fine so it must be in the high voltage circuit. By the way I tested the Door switches with no problem there. I pulled the HV Capacitor and it appears to be shorted across the leads and from the leads to the body of the capacitor. Looks like I'll replace that and the rectifier.

A microwave can be dead for many reasons.

If it goes dead for a while during or after cooking then comes back on, the magnetron is probably overheating and causing the thermostat to open. When it cools, it closes the circuit and allows power through again.

If it's intermittent or random, it may be a bad connection, usually on the control board or fuse holder.

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead a few seconds after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

If the fuse is good, it may be an open thermostat or thermal cutout on or near the magnetron or on top of the cavity / body of the oven.

My Advantium 120 microwave shows the time, but none of the buttons respond to being pressed.

Try turning it off at the power switch, leave off for several seconds then switch it back on, it may reset the control unit, if not take it to a repair outlet,

No power everything was fine then nothing when i got home is there any fuses to check in the microwave

There is a fuse under the cover, as well as a couple of safety thermostats that can cause a dead oven. It may also be that the power transformer for the control circuit board has failed. I've seen several Sharp ovens where the transformer died because of power surges. This would cause no display and no functions even though the oven has power. Also, did you make sure the outlet your oven is plugged into has power? If it's a GFI outlet it may need to be reset, or a circuit breaker in your electric service panel may have tripped.

Hope this helps, and thanks for using Fixya!

We cooking cinamon buns and the whole oven just turned off. We've got nothing...no light...won't start...nothing. it is on top of a trivection which is cooking a ham right now. This trivection is working...

It's probably a fuse or thermal cutout (TCO) in the unit.

We had an power outage and lost power for a few hours everything came back on but the microwave. I checked the outlet and checked the fuse still nothing. Is there anything that can be fixed?

Hello if you have no power at the outlet, you may have saved your microwave. If the outlet is dead go to your house electrical panel and reset the breaker or replace the fuse. if the outlet is live and the microwave still won't power on you will have to choose between repair and replacement. Definitely get an estimate before agreeing to a repair as microwaves are very inexpensive today compared to even a couple of years ago.

Microwave won't turn on. Seems like it is not getting power. I checked breaker. I am looking for a fuse. You know where one is? It is a GE Spacemaker(2 yrs old) model # JVM1440WH04

  • Make sure that the microwave is plugged into a grounded outlet. It must be a 3-prong outlet.
  • Make sure the clock is set.
  • Check to see if a programming sequence was entered. Sometimes improper programming or a program sequence such as delay start can cause the touch panel to be non-responsive. Unplug microwave or turn off house circuit breaker for 30 seconds. Plug back in, or reset circuit breaker, and try reprogramming unit.
  • Check the house circuit breaker or fuse box. If the microwave is DEAD and there is no display and nothing works- the problem could be a blown fuse or tripped breaker.

GE Profile Advantium Wall Oven 240 volts 950 Watts

How long does it run before it fails? Does it look like the display is getting scrambled characters? I'm leaning toward a bad magnetron, but it may be more or less than that. If you can give more details and especially the actual full model number (as opposed to the model name Advantium 120) that would help. Thanks!
