SOURCE: surround sound not working through ordinary tv

Try connecting the red and white audio cords to your system from your cable box/satellite receiver instead of your tv. Worked for me.

SOURCE: Setting up receive set top box and tv for surround sound

Plug the TV to an open channel on your receiver via this output:
*Rear, 1 x Digital audio output (coaxial) ( TOSLINK )
This will look like a single RCA output plug.
Set that input channel on your receiver to some sort of virtual surround mode because it doesn't look like your HDTV has a decoder in it (meaning it will come out stereo and the receiver will have to fake it).
Turn the volume all the way down on the TV and use the receiver to control TV volume just as you do with DVDs.

*Substitute this with the digital audio output on your set top box if you are sending video only to the TV from the set top box (component, DVI or s-video connections). So video goes to the TV, audio to the receiver.

I have a JVC DVD player that doesnt come with surround sound but i have surround sound speakers is there something I can buy so that I am able to use the speakers

If you have surround speakers with a surround system, then connect the Player to the surround system using for example RCA cables (White and Red).

If you have speakers only, connecting many speakers to a non-surround system won't give you surround.
In surround systems the sound is controlled, elaborated and distributed through the speakers by a circuit.

If you wnt surround sound the alternatives are :

  1. Connecting a surround system (eg.Home theater, receiver) to the player (amp+speakers)
  2. Upgrading the DVD to one with surround.
Let me know if you need more help.

bye.

I need to connect my Dish Network 625 DVR to a JVC RX-709VTN surround sound receiver, along with my DVD and VCR. Nobody can help me at Dish Network. Seems they aren't trained to help outside of the DVR. I...

Providing you have enough input ports on the surround run you a red and white audio RCA jack from the receiver out port for TV1 and connect to the same colored ports on the satellite in ports on the surround. If you do not have enough ports then you may have to use the in ports on the DVD etc to run the TV through to utilize the surround system. Thanks for using Fix Ya.

Surround sound hookup

Hook your satelite receiver to your TV. Then run from your TV audio out to your surround sound system. This should make your surround sound system work with anything your TV is playing.
