If you have some technical background you should open the fax and clean the mirrors inside.
The problem is that on the mirrors which read the document have dust on them and that stop them to read good.
If you want to open the fax by your self please tell to show you how to do it

My panasonic kx-fl501 fax message says please wait and the keys don't work

I realize this thread is old, but I just encountered the same problem with my Panasonic KX-FL501. Pressing #9000* does not work, as none of the key pads are responding. When I lift the receiver I get a tone. But the keys don't respond when I dial. Display shows "please wait"..... I've been waiting for hours.

Fax problem

How is the copy when you try to just make a copy of something? If it copies good, then it might be the senders machine.
If when you make a copy, and the copy is blurred, then it is probably your ribbon/ink cartridge.

If it is the cartridge, just replace the cartridge, and you should be good to go.
Hope this solves your problem.
Good luck.
Mac =)
