The tv has power and audio works, but there is no picture. It was displaying horizontal lines across the screen that would go from color to gray. Now the screen is black. Is this a possible backlight inverter problem? If so, are there parts available to replace it on this brand of tv? I haven't been able to find any.
Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.

To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement. To some models sets, the back-light inverter and SMPS section circuit will be integrated at its main board itself. If so; the main board should be replaced. To some models of sets, all these section circuit will be integrated at its main board. If this is the case, you have to replace the main board.

My 42" Samsung Plasma HDTV HP-R4252 has a 2" vertical strip of green pixels down the right side of the screen.
My 3 year warranty with Circuit City expires in Nov 2008.. so I hope I'm covered.. can't call until the morning.
Samsung said it might be a logic board problem.. but they want almost $2000 to fix. I might as well buy another TV if Circuit City can't fix it.

This television, appears to have had a failure in the mainboard. This is the board that controls the video functions and sound functions. The unit should be taken or sent in to a service center for testing and servicing. The service center will have all the correct service information to determine the problem for you. I have a ln-s4092d that had the same problem after a little more than a year of service. Replacing the main board seemed to fix the problem. But about a year later, the same problem has reappeared. I'm getting ready to replace the main board once again, but I don't really want to do this on an annual basis/

Based on reported problems with Samsung LCD tvs, It is probably one of three problems:
Separation of layers of the LCD panel;
A defective LVDS cable connection;
A defective T-Con circuit board.
If light hand pressure on the affected area on the LCD panel changes the problem, its the defective panel. If not, manipulating the LVDS cable will reveal the cable defect. If not, coolant spray applied to the T-Con circuit board should reveal if it is defective by temporarily alleviating the problem. Dont remove the back cover if you dont know how to protect yourself from electrical shock hazards. There can be more than 1000 volts in the backlight inverter area.
