Dark picture! I can not seem to get the picture bright.  DVD, XBOX, Direct TV look dark and gloomy. I have to make sure all light are off in order to see a bright picture. I tried adjusting the presets to " Day Time" still looks dark! Set lamp power to full. Any clue?

The screen may become dark if Picture mode is set to Cinema or Custom. If the screen continues to remain dark after changing the picture quality mode, go to the Backlight, Picture, Brightness menu and adjust the brightness to your liking. When Power Saving is fixed to Low or High, the screen becomes dark. Some TVs have a Light Sensor so the picture will just become brighter or darker depending on the lighting in the room.
You can also try programming from a different source, like a DVD player or VCR to check whether the problem is caused by the device that sends the signal to the TV.

If your TV seems to be darker than you think it should be, it is possible that the problem is with the light sensor. The light sensor will automatically adjust the picture brightness based on the ambient light that is in the room, (i.e. if the room is bright the picture will also be bright, if it is dark the picture will also be dark).

To turn this feature off go to Settings > General Setup > Light Sensor.

Try whether you have the same problem when using a DVD player. Go to settings of menu, select picture settings, try adjusting the backlight level/brightness/contrast/sharpness/color etc. to your liking. Check whether you get the same problem if you use the same input on another TV.

Show a torch light on the screen for a distance, and if you can see the picture, the backlight is not lighting up. Check for its settings on the remote, if you have that option. Check also the settings of brightness/contrast/sharpness/color. If you still have problems, please call in a qualified service technician.

Keep a close look to the screen, and see whether there is any trace of picture on it. If it is there, you can see pale shadow of it moving. If it is there, be sure that the backlight is not there. Thhere is an inverter board to energise the CCFL lamps used as backlight component. If the inverter board got faulty, the CCFL lamps won't light up, and no brightness will be there with LCD TVs. Check it. OK.

YO! please make sure the chord connecting your TV to the DVD are correctly and properly tightened .

I believe there may be another setting, it has to do with auto contrast which can make the TV seems to have high contrast ratio but sometime it does not work right, espically on the scene with dark sky with stars, someitme it will will reduce the brightness to make black real black and you can loger see the stars in the scene. I forget the name of this setting, it may be in the user manual. Do you see that in TV HD mode in other movies with a lot of dark scenes?

Are you really sure , your set has video? How dark is it ? As if really nothing visible? Am, sure you can hear sounds. You can adjust the brightness + button to increase the brightness. But if nothing happens , you have problem with your TV set. The problem might be in the Video section. Please let an expert technician to check it. Please don't do it by yourself, it's risky.

check vga cables or composite cables

sounds like you have bad caps in video area. Will need repair by experience tech.
