Sub woofer not turning on

do you have active speakers eg sub woofers powered speakers.they will still make noise if the power is left on. turn off power to sub woofers etc

Seems you are over driving the unit and causing it to overheat and the protective circuits are kicking in. U need a more powerful system to play at the volumes you want.

The power rating for this amp is as follows.
Two channel: Sub woofer: Min 35Watts
Two channel: Other than sub woofer : 70Watts
One channel: sub woofer; 100Watts
One channel: other than sub woofer: 200Watts.

Hissing? How loud? A sub isn't even capable of making high frequency sounds at normal volumes.

The Pioneer manual would tell you how to enable and test the subwoofer output.
Page 17 and the MACCV procedures on Page 33 (auto) or 43 (manual)

Do you mean sub woofer. Then you can select any brands Active sub woofer ( active means built in amplifier) to connect with your system. They comes in different power (watts). you can use an active sub woofer with 100W output.
connect the sub woofer pre out of you amp to the pre input of sub woofer.

You will need an amplifier or 2 channel receiver. Hook the sub out rca jack to the rca inputs on this new amp or receiver and hook the speaker terminals on sub to speaker terminals on same amp or receiver. Your Yamaha receiver doesn't have any power for a passive sub.Just pick up any old fairly high powered receiver for fifty dollars and you're good to go.I use old dolby pro logic receivers as they are a dime a dozen today. It is based on your sub-woofer type..whether powered or passive sub woofer..
Assume that you have powered one..RCA sub woofer jack is the best to feed it ..you should use RCA sub woofer output on your receiver as well..good luck

Perhaps I misunderstand the question.

Depends on the Sub. Most powered subs will go into standby mode in the prolonged absence of a signal. Then they wake up when you play something.

Or are you saying you need to Enable the Sub, as in setup? Remote probably required for anything like that.

Get a powered sub-woofer that has speaker level inputs, then run your front speaker wires into the sub-woofers speaker level input and then run a set of speaker wires from the sub-woofers speaker wire output to your front speakers. This is a common way to use a sub-woofer with a receiver that doesn't have a sub-woofer output.

Most powered sub-woofers have these connections, just check it out first before you buy one. They look like speaker jacks on the back of the receiver.

Any powered sub-woofer will work with it. Check the back of the Technics, make sure there is an RCA output labeled "Sub-woofer" or "Woofer" or "Sub". If so, you can get any brand of powered sub woofer and it will work. A powered sub-woofer is one with an amplifier for the sub built into the box and you will need to plug it into an A/C outlet as well. The only exceptions to what will work with this unit is to make sure you are not buying a sub-woofer that is made to only work with the companion unit it is originally sold with. Many Panasonic and JVC sub woofers are like this. Just look for a sub-woofer that is not part of any system. Velodyne makes some really great sub-woofers that would work nice with yours, but they can be a little expensive, but they are very good.

If your Technics has no RCA output for the sub-woofer, you will need to make sure that whatever powered sub-woofer you buy has a speaker level input for it. Most powered sub-woofers have this feature, so that you may just run the front speaker outputs of the receiver into the subwoofer and then the sub-woofer will have a set of speaker outputs right below the speaker inputs so you can still have your front speakers connected to that and not loose anything from your system.
