Can Jacuzzi Rapid Heat inline heater be installed upside down?

You do not want to install any heater upside down because if any debris gets inside the heater pressure switch while it is running it will NOT shut off once the pump shuts off.

Big buddy heater, push the control knob, click to light the pilot, hold for a minute or so, let off the knob, pilot goes out. Second heater did the same thing, using a 20 lb. tank with a inline filter

Inline filter? Did you mean inline regulator?

Sounds as if the Oxygen Depletion Sensor (ODS) may be clogged with dust and lint. You will need to open the heater to access the Pilot Assembly (the ODS is part of the Pilot).

Once you have done this, use canned compressed air with a straw nozzle attached (like you clean your computer with) to blow out the pilot tip (just a quick shot of air please. Then look down the pilot from the flame tip and you will se a small hole in the side of the pilot. That's the ODS sensor. Place the straw nozzle just barely into the hole and give it a quick shot of air. That will blow any debis out of the ODS sensor. Any other dust, lint and/or pet hair you see inside the heater should be cleaned out.

Once you have done this, if the heater will allow it, light the pilot as usual and see if it holds after releasing the control knob. If holds, great! If doesn't, relight and hold the control knob in and look at the pilot flame. Is it curling up and away from the Thermocouple? If so, try cleaning the pilot again. That should solve your problem.

If it still won't hold after it's lit, you will need to replace the Thermocouple.

Hope this helps to get the heater working again.

I have an older Jacuzzi with 4 corner spa jets. There is no inline heater in it. Since it takes about 180 gallons of water to fill it I would like to add an inline heater so that the heat can be maintained...

I have the same problem. I talked to Jacuzzi technical support and they said that they don't sell a product that will retrofit (they make the couplings a custom size to prevent this.) It's really a drag since I really don't want to install a whole new tub just to maintain water temperature. I haven't given up so if you found a solution please post.

I just installed an Espree Jacuzzi from Lowe's with the RapidHeat inline heater. It is on a separate circuit as suggested. The system works fine but the water keeps getting hotter and hotter - so much so...

there is not a thermostat on the bathtub heaters. they only maintain what temperature water you start with. they are capable of heating about 2-3 degrees an hour.

The a/c works fine, but the heater is not working. blows cold air.

Follow the heater hoses under the hood and find the "Heater Control Valve" inline of one of the hoses. It's possible a vacuume line has come off OR the valve is defective.
