Colors flicker when the tv is on for a while. The backlight seems fine, the colors flicker around between different wrong colors. I took off the back of the tv and can't see any blown capacitors.

I made a youtube video showing the tv glitching, and another of it working correctly as a reference. youtu.be/wRrutwV_f8U youtu.be/9q2sSJss5TI update: this web page electronicshelponline dot blogspot dot com/2013/06/how-to-diagnose-failed-tcon-board-how.html says "It is virtually impossible for the video process circuit to cause a problem on a specific area of the screen. Failures on this board usually appear as distortions, color level shifts, video level shifts or noise that involves the entire picture." which describes the problem pretty accurately, so the part is ordered. will update later to tell if it fixed it.

T con board issue.

  • happytracfon Feb 21, 2016

T-con was my #1 guess, with the mainboard being my #2 guess. Your answer was very short, can you clarify why you think it is a T-con issue rather than a main board issue?

Rear projection tv colors flickering

Two types or more of sets: regular TV sets with a picture Tube, big rear projection sets, Plasma, LCD, DLP

A model number would allow me to give you the answer--I suspect you have a set with a picture tube(regular tv)

Let me know which so I can try to give correct answer.

Samsung HLP5085W DLP - lamp replaced about 7 months ago. I powered up TV and got strange colors with flickering picture. Turned unit off and triangle symbol appears with lamp showing - needs replacement....

Strange colors and flickering picture symptom shows problem with color wheel and/or dmd board.
Lamp is only light source in dlp tv and it has nothing with colors or picture flicker.
TV goes to protection mode because of some internal problem as mentioned above.
If you wish to repair tv by yourself then you should have service manual copy in hand and that can be downloaded from HERE for small fee.
Hope these info will help you.
Thanks.

Screen flickers for about 20-30 seconds sporadically

Try looking at the LCD screen at a sharp angle to see if ghost-like video can be seen during the 'off' time of the flicker.  If video is still present even though not that visible, then either the backlight or its power supply are failing. The color problem could also be caused by a backlight lamp that is not ionizing completely.

Picture fine for 10min.-then flickers(clicking sound)& then colors gone yellow

Looks like it's a color wheel problem-found a cleaning walkthru online, but it doesn't get rid of the loud hum form the CW motor. Also, it is thermal related-when the colors went out I placed a fan next to the color wheel and everything went back to normal. Several design flaws here and for $3000 these companies should do better-severe problems after a couple years is not acceptable.

Backlight is acting like a bad flour. tube .. everthing else OK

Normaly the backlights have a life of around 40k hours of working.
If your monitor is 3-4 years ,the backlight tube/s could be defective.Your description seems to indicate tube aging.

It's possible to replace the tube but needs a good amount of technical skill.
Do write if you need more help,Please indicate make exact model no etc.

Flickering color tube on sony KV-27V40

Good day.

I beleive the problem is with the loose solder along the ICs and CRT board. Dont worry, That problem is repairable.
