Canon PowerShot S410 smears of color on display and photos

I have a canon powershot s410 camera. It has worked great for years. Now the display shows blurry swaths of color instead of the scene that the camera is pointing at. The lens mechanism seems fine. Also, I have uploaded the pictures taken since this problem started happening to my computer, and they have the blurry swaths just like the display. It would seem the problem is with the ccd or something. Is there a way to reset the camera? Is there a repair option, or is it time for a new camera? Thanks.

Thank you very much! I called Canon, and they will send me a mailing label to send the camera in for repair for free. Awesome!

Flickering image on LCD lens of my Canon S410

By the sounds of it you have a bad chip on your camera system board. If the image records okay and displays okay after the image is recorded. Other than having your camera repaired you may have to use your camera as is.

Hello! i own a canon s410 powershot, the camera got broken,i was given a canon a530 powershot and i want to use the software that came with s410,is that possible?my next question is about the the windows...

No, it's not likely to be compatible. The problem is that Canon did not update the drivers for many of its older cameras under the Vista operating system. So you're likely to run into problems downloading directly from the camera using the software. But there are other options, such as using an inxepensive card reader (can get them online for $2) to download your photos:

But back to your S410, what exactly is wrong with it? By chance if it's taking black, pink, or distorted pictures, please see this:

Powershot s410 My s410 is "old" :( but I love it and has been working amazingly over 10,000 photos in the 4 years I've had it. All of a sudden this week-end when I am in auto or manual mode the screen is...

Since it is taking a picture, and showing it up afterwards on the display, it definitely sounds like you activated the DISP or DISPLAY button. Seeing that you've used this camera for years, you should know that this manually turns the screen on and off to save batteries, and to turn it back on again, all you have to do is press this button once more. As you've undoubtedly already tried this, suggest trying the button again, maybe jiggling it (to overcome potential corrosion) to reactivate the screen.

Digital Camera: Canon PowerShot S410. Display screen is blank, although can see through eye hole. Pictures come out blank as well! Lens zoom-in/out works fine.

Lcd is blery

What you describe may be caused by several different faults. Do the pictures from the camera show the same blurry washed out look? It may be either the aperture is stuck wide open, or the shutter may be similarly stuck open. Can you describe the symptoms further?
